Search Conducted by Officials After Bomb Threat Received

Around 3:30 AM on Monday, February 2, two consecutive calls were received by dispatch at the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s office threatening bodily harm to Judge Robert Burgess. To be specific, the bodily harm was to blow up his house. Around the same time fram , former DeSoto Sheriff’s deputy  Robert “Robbo” Davidson received four calls to his personal cell phone threatening bodily harm to him as well. Due to the calls being made around the same town, officials believe that the same party may have made the calls to the Sheriff’s office and Davidson.

NSU to Offer Louisiana Concealed Carry Class This Saturday

Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic and Continuing Education will offer a Louisiana Concealed Carry Class Saturday, Feb. 7. The class is for those age 21 or older who want to obtain a Louisiana concealed handgun permit. The course will be from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. in South Hall on the Northwestern State campus and at the Natchitoches Shooting Range.  The cost is $110 plus a range fee.Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Billiot will teach the class which will cover pistol s oting fundamentals, safe handling, use of force laws and related topics. DeSoto Parish Police Jury Opens Linwood Compactor Site

Gone are the days where residents along the Linwood Avenue corridor have to drive to Stonewall or Frierson to dispose of their garbage. With the opening of the Linwood Compactor Site in Jury District No. 2, the 16th such site in DeSoto Parish, people in the area will save time and money to safely dispose of their household waste. The Linwood Compactor Site became a reality because of the tireless efforts of long-time Juror A. W. McDonald, Jr., District No. 2 representative. McDonald understood from the beginning that the site had to be close enough to his constituents for ease of access yet remote enough to keep from disturbing their quiet lifestyle.

Local Chapter of Wives Behind the Badge to Participate in “Paint the Town Blue”

Wives Behind the Badge, Inc. is proud to join one of the fastest growing initiatives for the organization to date. “Paint The Town Blue” will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 across the entire state of Louisiana. The Auxiliary hopes to receive support from businesses and residents who will agree to display blue ribbons in windows and on doors throughout towns and cities, big and small. Brooke Lowe, Director of the Auxiliary shares that “after seeing the tremendous response for our sisters in West Virginia, it only made sense to create the same enthusiasm here in Louisiana.”

McCoy stated that the Mansfield Water System has begun enforcing the Louisiana State Plumbing Code requirement that public water systems develop and implement cross-connection control programs this month. New 42nd District Attorney Gary V. Evans and Assistants Take Oath of Office

On Monday, January 12 GaryVincent Evans took the Oath ofOffice becoming the second District Attorney for the State of Louisiana’s42nd District. Presiding over theswear-in ceremony was the new DA’s son and DeSoto Parish Clerkof Court, Jeremy Evans. New Assistant District Attorneys LeeHall and George Winston, alongwith Investigator for the DA’soffice, Kem Jones also wereadministered their separate Oaths inthe DeSoto Parish Courtroom.
