On Saturday, March 28, DeSoto Parish voters will go to the polls to determine whether or not two propositions for the school board will pass. The early ballot date will give the school board additional chances to bring the propositions back before the public should the vote fail to pass.

On May 8, 9 and 10, DeSoto Parish residents as well as the surrounding area will have the opportunity to be a part of something historic as a hot air balloon show entitled, “Balloons Over DeSoto” will be held. The
event will be filled with family fun for an entire weekend, and is sponsored by the DeSoto Parish Police Jury and DeSoto Parish Tourism Board.

Logansportʼs Krewe of Aquarius now has a sister krewe in DeSoto Parish, which will be headquartered in Mansfield. The newest krewe around selected the name Demeter after the Greek Goddess of Harvest and Agriculture

The weeks of hard work and preparation will come to a close on Friday, March 20, when the members of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) host their annual banquet, with doors opening at 5:30 PM and dinner starting at 7:00 PM at the Dave Means Memorial 4-H Building in Grand Cane.

Kyle Deas, from Logansport High School, was selected as the DeSoto Parish 8th Grade Student of the Year. This recognition is well deserved as he competed against other outstanding students in DeSoto Parish for the top honor.

Members of The Greatest Generation were recently honored at a WWII Luncheon at Hoban Hall at Barksdale Air Force Base. The annual World War II luncheon honored Northwest Louisiana veterans including Raymond Powell, John Blanchard and Billy McElroy.

Officials from DeSoto Parish Schools were recently surprised with the TAP Award of Distinction. The award honors an organization for its commitment to the implementation of TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement in order to improve educator effectiveness. It was presented at the 15th National TAP Conference in Los Angeles,California, before more than 1,200 educators, policy makers and influential leaders in business and education.
