The Mansfield Alive Committee will see the fruits of their labors when the weekend rolls around. Mansfield’s Second Annual Juneteenth Festival will be this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with workers continuing to finish details to make this year’s event the best that it can be. Those planning to attend can expect music, food, crafts and a fantastic weekend as well as worship services on Sunday afternoon and evening. Events for the entire family have been planned with something for everyone.

Parts of DeSoto Parish Fall Victim to June 18th Storms

The early hours of Thursday, June 18 found areas of DeSoto Parish in the path of a storm, with residents taking shelter in hallways and bathrooms. Heavy damage was reported on Laura and Polk Streets in Mansfield, with the Kickapoo-Gloster area also having destruction.

The “Summer Solstice” event invites visitors to the Historic District to enjoy the old buildings and the DAC Gallery Artists at work.

David Dodd Returns Home to Logansport to Address Chamber

Former Logansport resident and graduate of Logansport High School, David Dodd, was recently in town to address the Logansport Chamber of Commerce at their June 9 meeting. He also was honored with a breakfast earlier in the day by Chamber officials at the Iron Skillet restaurant. Many will remember him as the branch manager of First National Bank in Logansport, which is now Capital One.

Krewe of Demeter’s First Coronation Event Slated

DeSoto Parish’s Krewe of Demeter, which is headquartered in Mansfield, will celebrate their first coronation as they crown their royalty for the 2016 Mardi Gras Season. The party has been set for Saturday, August 8 at 7:00 PM at the Clista A. Calhoun Center, located at 515 Louisiana Street in Mansfield. Suggested attire for the coronation is business casual. Ticket prices for the event have been set at $30.00 per person or $50.00 per couple, which includes entertainment by a DJ, heavy appetizers, photo booth and a cash bar.

DPPJ Provides Little Known Service to Ease Lives of Some DeSoto Parish Residents

Many DeSoto Parish residents deem the most important work done by the DeSoto Parish Police Jury to be related to roads, bridges, culverts, and ditches. Yet just as important to some residents is the DPPJ Ramp and Driveway Program. This program enables many disabled residents to be more independent and active by bringing safe driveways and ramps right to the door of their choice. The Police Jury is fully aware of the importance of this program, so $20,000 was budgeted in 2015 with the goal of making life a little more convenient and safe for our qualified residents.

in front of Senate Committee Judiciary C in order to save the current law known as "Gwen's Law."
