Richard Fuller to Seek Reelection for DPPJ District 4-A

Richard Fuller, current police juror for District 4-A, has announced his intent to seek reelection for the board seat he presently holds. The resident of the Forrest Community was first elected to the DPPJ in 2008, and has served his constituents for the last five years.

DeWayne Mitchell Announces Candidacy for Reelection - District 1B Police Juror Seat

B. D. “DeWayne” Mitchell has announced his candidacy for reelection for DeSoto Parish Police Jury-District 1B. Mitchell has held this seat for six terms and is seeking his seventh. Mitchell, who is formerly from Sabine Parish, moved to the Logansport area in 1978 to manage a new grocery store that had opened. He stayed with that chain, but was later transferred to Mansfield to manage the facility there when the Logansport store was sold. Then, a few years ago, the original chain sold to a Texas grocery store franchise and Mitchell was retained to continue managing the store under new ownership. He is happy to have made DeSoto Parish his home for the last several decades.

Ken Kaffka Declares Bid for DPPJ District 2 Seat

Stonewall resident Ken Kaffka has announced his intent to run as board member for DeSoto Parish Police Jury- District 2’s seat, which is currently held by A. W. McDonald. McDonald, who has served his constituents for several years, has decided not to seek reelection. Originally from Shreveport, Kaffka and his wife (Shirley) of 42 years, moved to Stonewall in 1990, making him a resident of the district that he would represent for over 25 years. He and his wife have been a part of the community by serving as volunteer firemen for Fire District 3 since moving to Stonewall. Kaffka has also been a board member of Fire District 3 for 5 years. He and his wife attend church services at Keithville Baptist Church and St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Kaffka jokingly states that he is a “Baplic”, since he was raised in the Catholic faith, but sometimes attends the Baptist church with his wife.

Stonewall Beverage Company

Stonewall Beverage Company is a hot topic among the citizens of Stonewall, with some in favor of it opening its doors and others against the sale of alcohol. Commissioner of the Office Of Alcohol and Tobacco Control Commissioner Troy Hebert will be conducting a public hearing in Stonewall within the next thirty days with both sides being able to present testimony on the approval of the Class C alcoholic beverage liquor license.

City of Mansfield Water Rates and Special Services to Increase Beginning August 1

The Aldermen of the City of Mansfield have approved a rate in crease on water usage and special services beginning August 1. The Last usage increase was in 2004 but chemicals and other miscellaneous services concerning customer usage have continued to rise. With Water usage running at a deficit the council has no other choice but to raise the rates and implement feeson requested services by the city.

Jarrell O. Burch Announces Candidacy for DeSoto Police Jury - District 1C

Current Police Juryman for District 1-C, Jarrell O. Burch, has announced his intent to seek reelection for the board seat he has held for several terms. Burch first was elected to serve on the Police Jury on June 6, 1976 and continued to do so until 2004 when he chose not to run for the DPPJ seat. After that term was over, Burch again decided he was needed to represent the constituents of District 1-C, sought re-election and was victorious.

First Sgt Mark Terrell of DeSoto Parish to be Honored in Ceremony

On July 23, Master Sergeant Mark E. Terrell, formerly of DeSoto Parish, will be honored at a ceremony to be held at Alexandria Hall in Augusta, Georgia, which is in close proximity of where is currently stationed – Fort Gordon, Georgia. Terrell is a 1986 graduate of Stanley High School.
