Haley Parker was six years old when she found out that her mom was pregnant. On the day that her sister, Lacey, was born, the doctors made a diagnosis that would change her family’s life forever. The doctors told them that Lacey had Down Syndrome, Trisomy 21, and she only had ten days to live. However, it was not God’s plan for Haley to lose her sister. Lacey persevered and broke every boundary that the doctors placed on her. At six months old, Lacey was sent into heart surgery in Dallas.

This Saturday, DeSoto voters will join others statewide in the Louisiana Presidential Primaries as they select the candidate that they would like to see receive the Republican or Democratic nomination for President of the United States. If you are not affiliated with one of these two parties, you will be unable to participate. Unlike four years ago, neither Democrats nor Republicans are allowing other parties to vote with them.
Macy Young was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and is the daughter of Todd and Amy Young. Her dad is a minister and she has been involved in many church activities since she was young. She has taken part in GAS which stands for “Girls in Action” as well as community service projects such as making sack lunches for “Room in the Inn”, an organization that her church put together for homeless men. She participated in Vacation Bible School at her church, and in sixth grade Macy got to lead worship every morning in the worship rally.
Students of Mrs. Rose Jacksonʼs class at Mansfield High School recently participated in a mockdisaster drill with area first responders. The entities that participated with the students includedthe Mansfield Fire Department, Mansfield Police Department, Fire District 8, DeSoto EMS, LifeCare Helicopter Medical Team, E-911 and the DeSoto Parish Sheriffʼs Department.

Police Chief Gary Hobbs has announced that the Mansfield Police Department has partnered with the National Shooting Sports Foundation: Project ChildSafe, in an effort to promote firearms safety among children. The project is primarily geared towards providing FREE gun locks to the community, but also provides brochures on safe storage practices as well as messages geared to kids about firearms responsibility.
Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle is proud to announce that one of our deputies has completed an Intoxilyzer 5000 Instructor Class. This will allow the DeSoto Parish Sheriffʼs Office to certify deputies on the Intoxilyzer 5000 instrument, which is commonly referred, to as the breath test during a DWI arrest. Deputy Michael Dunn, as part of training, assisted the Louisiana State Police as an instructor in 5 different Intoxilyzer 5000 Operator courses.
President William Dorroh has announced the election of Ronald Wayne Jackson and Justin B. Moore to the Board of Directors of Community Bank of Louisiana. Jackson is a 40 year banking veteran in DeSoto Parish and currently serves as Executive Vice President of Community Bank of Louisiana. He is a graduate of Wiley College and is married to Rose Thomas Jackson. They reside in Mansfield.
