Get in the Christmas Spirit - 7th Annual Pioneer Christmas Parade & Trade Day

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Come get in the holiday spirit on Saturday, Dec. 7th from 10:00am until 2:00pm as the Historic Grand Cane Association (HGCA) and Becky & Don Bates celebrates our 7th Annual Pioneer Christmas Parade & Trade Day. Don Bates of Grand Cane has again done an outstanding job of enlisting entries, from near and far, for an all horse and mule drawn wagon and carriage parade. He reports there should be up to 20 entries that will participate.

DeSoto Chamber Honors Stonewall Business with Ribbon Cutting

Almost Forsaken, a new Stonewall business offers custom painted furniture, cabinetry and monogramming, was honored with a ribbon cutting on Saturday, November 23. The business that refurbishes and redesigns furniture also offers Van Gogh chalk paint and furniture makeup.

Hometown Hero Honored with Candlelight Vigil

On November 20, area officials and friends gathered at Washington- Taylor-Rogers Stadium on the campus of Mansfield High School, but there were no football teams, no marching bands or loud athletic fans. The stands were filled with a type of cheerleaders, although they were a bit subdued as they remembered Staff Sgt. Richard Vazquez who died while serving his third tour in Afghanistan. His sister, Christine Vazquez stated that Vazquez, a 28-year-old Green Beret laid down his life for his men and country.

Candlelight Vigil to be Held in Honor of Sgt. Richard Vazquez Wednesday Evening

A candlelight vigil has been set for Wednesday, November 20, beginning at 6:00 PM to honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Richard Lee Vazquez of Mansfield, who died as a result of wounds sustained while serving his country. The memorial will be held at Washington-Taylor-Rogers Stadium on the Mansfield High School Campus, located on Hwy84, in Mansfield.

Pioneer Christmas Parade Features“Treasure Chest” Raffle December 7th

On Saturday, December 7th, The Historic Grand Cane Association (HGCA) will be offering a prize packed “Treasure Chest” to be raffled during the upcoming Pioneer Christmas Parade and Trade Day. The Treasure Chest is now on display at the Capital One Grand Cane Branch and is filling up daily with an array of prizes. Tickets for the raffle are available, in advance, at Capital One Bank, Grand Cane branch. Tickets may also be purchased from HGCA Board members and at the HGCA booth the day of the event. Tickets are $1.00 each.

City of Mansfield Christmas Parade Slated for December 14

Santa’s Elves and the Mansfield Alive! Committee have been hard at work with planning and decorating for the 2013 City of Mansfield Christmas Parade. The annual event will be held on the second Saturday of December, which falls on December 14, beginning at 2:00 PM. DeSoto Clerk of Court AppointsSusan Huey as Deputy Clerk

On Tuesday, November 12, DeSoto Parish Clerk of Court, Jeremy Evans, announced that he had named a permanent Deputy Clerk to replace semi-retired Interim Clerk, Jena Mannies. Mrs.Mannies, who came out of retirement to ease the transition of Evan’s taking office in July 2012, will continue to serve and assist in the Clerk of Court’s office. Evan’sadded that Mrs. Mannies’ knowledge and experience was invaluable, and he was pleased that she will still be available to assist in whatever area that is needed.

Governor Jindal Breaks Ground on North Louisiana Crime Lab

Johnson, Jr., State Representative Richard Burford, and State Senator Sherri Buffington, marked the groundbreaking of the new North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory in Caddo Parish.
