Lady Griffins Bring Home Back to Back Softball State Championships

Article Image Alt Text

By: Jennifer G. Wheless

“Unreal” is how Lady Griffin Junior pitcher and Northwestern State commit Emma Callie Delafield described winning back to back state championships. The North DeSoto Lady Griffins continued their quest on Friday in Sulphur at the LHSAA Fast Pitch 56 state softball tournament to defend their state title in an epic matchup with the number 8 seeded St. Thomas Moore Cougers. While both teams are no strangers to the state tournament, this quarterfinal matchup had all the components of a championship game. This game would be a classic pitching duel and would come down to who made the first error and which pitcher would give up the long ball more. Delafield racked up 13 strikeouts in the extra inning contest while St. Thomas Moore senior pitcher Whitney Romero had 10.
