Sheriff Arbuckle Makes DeSoto Parish History Taking 5th Oath of Office

On Friday, June 24, Rodney Arbuckle made history in DeSoto Parish by taking the Oath of Office for the fifth time as Sheriff of DeSoto Parish. He is the only sheriff to be elected to five consecutive terms of office. Arbuckle was accompanied by his wife of 34 years, Carol, who held the Bible during the ceremony. Also witnessing the momentous occasion were his mother, Pat Arbuckle, and his son and daughter-in-law, Micah and Brooke Arbuckle. The Arbuckle’s other son and daughter-in-law, Ethan and Aly, who reside in Baton Rouge, were unable to be present.

DeSoto Fire District 1 to Light Up Logansport’s Skies at “The Second Annual Rickey Warren Memorial Fireworks Show”

DeSoto Fire District 1 Chief Rusty Canton and his team of firefighters will be lighting up the skies again this year as they present the Second Annual Rickey Warren Memorial Fourth of July Fireworks Show. The event has been named to honor the memory of one of their own, who was a very dedicated member of the Fire Department. Chief Canton said “The Rickey Warren Memorial Fireworks Show” is estimated to begin at dusk. Everyone is invited to come to the family friendly and free event. It has been compared to the size of the display that presented in Natchitoches during their Christmas festival.

Rainbows Show God’s Promise in Mansfield

On Monday, June 20, residents and visitors in Mansfield were able to view a colorful rainbow in the late afternoon sky, reminding us of Godʼs Promise, “I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”

Mansfield’s Third Annual Juneteenth Festival Set for this Weekend

The Mansfield Alive Committee has been hard at work and is proud of the entertainment and event schedule they will present for the Third Annual Juneteenth Celebration to be held June 24, 25 and 26. The courthouse square will be the place to be on those dates with festival favorites that will be returning that include musical entertainment, food and beverage booths, arts and crafts booths and the parade.

Louisiana House of Representatives Honor Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle

State Rep. Larry Bagley recently led the House of Representatives in honoring DeSoto Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle as Louisiana’s Public Official of the Year. The Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers nominated Arbuckle as “an individual who exemplifies leadership, ingenuity, and excellence in office.”

DeSoto Relay for Life Teams Ready for Saturday’s Event

On Saturday, June 18, DeSoto Parish residents and guests from all across our area will join together once again as they raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society with the Parish’s Relay for Life. This year’s event will center around the DeSoto Parish Courthouse square from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The hours have been modified due to the warmer June weather as compared to the early Spring temperatures. As in years past, vendors will be selling food, various snacks, beverages and related merchandise with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. The event that was originally scheduled for April 30 had to be rescheduled due to the oncoming prediction of inclement weather.
