On Friday night, October 30, the Mansfield Wolverines fell to the Green Oaks Giants 34-28 in their first game in the newly renovated Washington-Taylor-Rogers Football Stadium. Although the stadium still has a few final touches that will be completed in the near future, the excitement in the air was undeniable as fans and students entered the stadium.

The culmination of this project brings this facility up to par with any 3A stadium in the state,” said Superintendent Clay Corley. “We pride ourselves on offering the best for our students and community. State Merges with DPPJ to Fund New Road for 1-49 Industrial Park

With the State of Louisiana and funds from DeSoto Parish totaling almost three million dollars, the DeSoto Industrial Park will be realigned and improved to service multiple businesses at a park near Frierson. A portion of the funds will also be used to build new entrance roads into two other industrial parks on U. S. 84 West just outside of Mansfield and U. S. Highway 171 south.

The road to the Industrial Park is currently in such terrible shape it is prone to flooding, which leaves workers stranded. Hopefully, the new plans will alleviate these problems and encourage tenants to stay put.

Eagles Soar Over Toledo Bend as We Remember Veterans Day

Eagles Soar Over Toledo Bend as We Remember Veterans Day

The bald eagle’s role as a national symbol is linked to its 1782 landing on the Great Seal of the United States. Shortly after the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress gave Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams the job of designing an official seal for the new nation. However, the three Founding Fathers failed to come up with a design that won Congress’ approval, as did two later committees that were given the task. In mid-June 1782, the work of all three committees was handed over to Charles Thomson, the secretary of Congress. Thomson chose what he thought were the best elements of the various designs and made the eagle, which had been introduced by artistically inclined Pennsylvania lawyer William Barton in a design submitted by the third committee, more prominent. (Since ancient times, the eagle has been considered a sign of strength; Roman legions used the animal as their standard, or symbol.)

The DeSoto Chamber of Commerce have had their monthly luncheon meetings on hold due to COVID-19 with the last actual meeting held on February 18. Hopefully, all of these events will return to the 2021 calendar.
