BackAlley Theatre Rocks with “Always…Patsy Cline”

BackAlley Theatre in Grand Cane will be rocking for two weekends in October, when “Always… Patsy Cline “runs October 2, 3, 4 9, 10 at 7pm. Tickets are $10 for the 7pm show. Box office is 872-6373 or 461-8684. Reservations are required for the show because seating is limited.

Alonzo Allen of Mansfield, LA and Tonya Young of Durham, NC are proud to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, April Marie Gilbert to Travis Tyrone Dewitt, son of Cynthia Dewitt-Lane and Gary 
Belton, both of Mansfield, LA. The couple will marry on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at David B. Means 4-H Building located at 10117 Hwy 171 Grand Cane, LA at 6 PM. The nuptials will take place the day  after the groom celebrates his 33rd birthday

BackAlley Theatre Welcomes Hannah Roark as Annual Meeting Speaker

BackAlley Theatre will hold its annual meeting September 29, 2014 at 6pm in the theater in Grand Cane with guest speaker Hannah Roark. Roark was the prop master for the WGN series SALEM and has an extensive background in the movie and TV industry. She is also a business owner and entrepreneur in Grand Cane operating THE WANDERER pottery and gift shop.

Logansport Chamber Honors Logansport Branch Library

The Logansport Chamber of Commerce recently named the DeSoto Parish Library – Logansport Branch as the July business of the month. Since the Chamber did not meet in July,  they were unable to present the award to the winner until the August meeting. DeSoto Art Council Issues Call for Artists

The DeSoto Arts Council (DAC) is issuing a “Call for Local Artists” to place their art pieces in the DAC Gallery for marketing. A DeSoto Arts Council Goal is to promote and assist local and area artists in the sale of their works. The DAC Gallery is operated completely by a volunteer staff and is open 3 days a week, offering a wide variety of original art by our own artists.

Books and Biscuits Discuss “Me Before You” at August Meeting

Books and Biscuits Book Club met at the Village Cuisine Restaurant in Grand Cane on August 5, 2014. Linda Sibley led a very interesting discussion of this month’s selection, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. Ms. Moyes is a 
British journalist and the author of 10 novels published from 2002 to present.

Mansfield Lions Work Giant Rummage Sale

Members and officers of the Mansfield Lions Club that worked at the clubʼs rummage sale fundraiser stopped long enough to pose for a picture. The sale was held on August 2 at the Clista A. Calhoun Center in Mansfield. The entire proceeds of the sale went to various charity projects that include the Boy Scouts of America, the Louisiana Lionsʼ Eye Bank and the Louisiana Lionsʼ Camp for children with special needs, diabetes and pulmonary

MHS Graduate’s Art Currently Showcased at R. W. Norton Museum

The paintings of nationally recognized fine artist and Louisiana native, Daniel Mark Cassity, on exhibit for “AMERICAN STILL LIFES” at Shreveport’s R.W. Norton Museum, have been on display since March 4th, with the
date extended until August 31. The exhibition will contain sixty-six paintings by fourteen nationally recognized artists, including Cassity’s who only recently moved from Shreveport to Hot Springs, AR.
