Debbie Carr was the discussion leader at this month’s meeting of the Books & Biscuits Book Club at Nonnie’s Café in Grand Cane. Written by Carol Cassella, a practicing physician and novelist, the book “Gemini” proved to be both intriguing and enlightening.

Louisiana Nursery, located at 12290 Mansfield Road in Keithville, has released dates for upcoming seminars to be held at their facility. Owners Robert and Kim Liles cordially invite everyone to come and take part in the various gardening related topics, which are free to attend.

Mansfield Garden Club February Meeting

The Mansfield Garden Club meet Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the DeSoto Parish Library. Members answered roll call by telling what part of gardening they enjoyed most. Most agreed that they enjoyed all of it, but really walking through and watching the changing of flowers and plants gave them the most satisfaction. God’s creation of nature is a wonder to everyone, and gardeners are thankful they are given this pleasure every day.

DAC to Present Kidwell Art Students’ Show

The DeSoto Arts Council is pleased to announce the date for the popular Ron Kidwell Art Students’ Show on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 1 – 3 pm in the DAC Gallery in Grand Cane. Kidwell’s students meet once a month for his “Paint-in-a-Day” class and complete a painting each session.

DeSoto Arts Council Selected as DeSoto Chamber’s February Business of the Month

At the DeSoto Parish Chamber’s February business luncheon, the DeSoto Arts Council was selected as Business of the Month. The council and its art gallery are located in the Historic Village of Grand Cane, who is the smallest cultural district in Louisiana. It is housed in the Hicks- Richardson Building and is a 501 C3 non profit corporation that operates on donations and grants.

United Methodist Women Raise Mission Funds with Dessert Auction

Laughter was heard and memories were made at the annual United Methodist Women’s Dessert Auction, with homemade desserts offered by both the woman and men of the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield. Dr. Gil Rew, in full auctioneer form, “extracted” bids as high as $150 to bring a total of $1,600 to go toward misión work.

Cheyenne Bell of Mansfield Visits with ULL Admissions Representative

Jessica Carter, right,  spoke with Laci Watson, a senior from Franklinton, and Cheyenne Bell, a junior from Mansfield, about ULL and what it has to offer LSMSA students.

Books and Biscuits Book Club Hosts Longview Educator and Author Rose Bayless

Books and Biscuits Book Club held its monthly meeting on February 2, 2016 at Nonnie’s Restaurant in Grand Cane with special guest Rose Bayless, author and educator. Bayless, originally from Mansfield now living in Longview, recently published her first book “A Teacher’s Touch: Legacies, Legends, and Pacesetters of the Classroom”.
