Police Jury Assures Clinic will Remain in Logansport; Helps with Floating Dock Funding

Folks who enjoy boating on Toledo Bend Reservoir and the Sabine River will soon be able to anchor their boats to a new floating dock thanks in part to the DeSoto Parish Police Jury.

“It’s a Southern Thang” Selected for Logansport’s 32nd Annual River City Fest’s Theme

Plans are underway for the 32nd Annual River City Fest in Logansport, with this year’s theme selected as “It’s a Southern Thang”. Festival Chairman Karla Smith stated that this year’s theme came to her, and she just went with it. Dates for the 2015 Fest will run May 15, 16 and 17. A fireworks show presented by Durr Pyromania will begin at “dark-thirty” Friday night.

Village of Grand Cane Comes Alive This Saturday with “Art Rocks! 2015”

Art for everyone! This is the goal of the Co-Sponsors of Art Rocks 2015, which is sponsored by the Historic Grand Cane Association, DeSoto Arts Council (DAC) and DeSoto Parish Tourist Bureau. This year’s Art Festival is sure to be a full range of art experiences on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm in Historic Grand Cane.

Plans Continue for First Annual “Balloons Over DeSoto” Event

On May 8, 9 and 10, DeSoto Parish residents as well as the surrounding area will have the opportunity to be a part of something historic as a hot air balloon show entitled, “Balloons Over DeSoto” will be held. The event will be filled with family fun for an entire weekend, and is sponsored by the DeSoto Parish Police Jury and DeSoto Parish Tourism Board.

Logansport Chamber Honors Country Skillet Restaurant with Ribbon Cutting

On Thursday, April 16, the Logansport Chamber of Commerce honored the Country Skillet with a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony. Officials and chamber members turned out to support the area’s newest business that is located at 16069 Hwy 84 (the corner of Hwy 84 and Hwy 191). Business hours are 5:00 AM until 10:00 PM.

Fundraiser Planned to Benefit Jessica Benison

A chicken spaghetti luncheon has been set for Sunday, April 19 from 11:30 AM until 2:00 PM for Jessica Benison, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Jessica has recently begun radiation and chemotherapy to battle the disease. A $7.00 donation will purchase you a plate of spaghetti, green beans, roll and a dessert. The event will be held at DeSoto Fire District 1 in Logansport.

Books and Biscuits Club April Meeting Highlights

Books and Biscuits Book Club met at Nonnie’s Restaurant in Grand Cane on April 7, 2015. Prior to our book discussion, we heard a short presentation from Janet Arnold  about a “Helping Hands Community Meet and Greet” which will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 6:00PM at the DeSoto Sheriff’s Office Training Center. Dinner will be provided at no charge and a number of community providers will be on hand to speak on a variety of safety issues of importance to women.
