Eugenia Manning Donates Books to the Mansfield Main Library

Eugenia Manning, longtime Mansfield resident and artist, has donated two books to the Mansfield Branch of the DeSoto Parish Library. She designed both books, and using her well-known computer skills, set up each one for printing. The first book is an art book she put together for her children and grandchildren, which records her family portraits, other commissioned portraits (which included animals and home places) and some of her flower paintings.

Mansfield Main Library Childrenʼs Librarian Darron Spencer not only has great stories for her young patrons on Wednesdays during Story Hour, she also has music, crafts and games planned for each session. Bring your pre-school age children by weekly at 10:00 AM to join in the fun. Pictured is Ms. Spencer and some of her young friends in a parachute activity.

Mansfield Garden Club March Meeting; “Southern Charms” Flower Show Date Slated

The Mansfield Garden Club met at the DeSoto Parish Library on March 16, 2016, for the regular monthly meeting with President Jackie Albright presiding. Secretary Velda Neilson called the roll with members responding if they had seen humming birds this year. They should be in yards soon so prepare feeders to welcome them. Treasurer Ott Murphy gave the financial report.

Ark-La-Tex Herb Society Fundraiser Planned

The Ark-La-Tex Herb Society will hold its annual Herb Fundraiser on Saturday, April 16 at the Highland Center, which is located at 520 Olive Street in Shreveport. Hours of the event will be from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM. A large variety of plants will be available for your choosing, with member on hand to help with your selections and to answer questions.

Antique Bottles on Display at the Logansport Branch Library

Stop by the Logansport Branch Library and see David Toney’s vast display of antique bottles. Mr. Toney is no stranger to antiques. He and his wife, Angela, were previous owners of a local antique store. Their collection started when they first got married over 23 years ago, although his collection of bottles began when he was a child. “It was the thing to do back then, as the soda bottles could be turned in for a refund. That was before most things went to plastic packaging and we became a throw away society,” Mrs. Toney commented.

Calling All Artists - Art Rock’s Festival 2016

The Historic Grand Cane Association, in conjunction with the DeSoto Arts Council and the DeSoto Tourist Bureau, is seeking all artists and artisans in the local area to participate in the spring Art Rock’s Festival 2016. The event is scheduled for April 30, 2016, and will be held in The Village of Grand Cane Downtown Historic District. The festival will be open from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Debbie Carr was the discussion leader at this month’s meeting of the Books & Biscuits Book Club at Nonnie’s Café in Grand Cane. Written by Carol Cassella, a practicing physician and novelist, the book “Gemini” proved to be both intriguing and enlightening.
