History Repeats Itself-Wolverines Lose In First Round

Article Image Alt Text

By Ronnie Hill.

Yes, history Repeated itself, the Mansfield WOLVERINES lost, got blown out, in 1st ROUND of the Playoffs again. That's been the story for the last several years. Some drastic changes need to be made to get the WOLVERINES back to their glory days of the past. Somebody needs to get a back bone and get this done. The Kaplan Pirates scored on 5 of their 6 possessions in the 1st half. The WOLVERINES had 5 punts. The Pirates scored with 1:01 left in the 3rd... I was unable to stay for the remainder of the game and left at the end of the 3rd with the score 40-0.

By: Raina Wheless.

The 2013 season came to an end this past Friday night for the Logansport Tigers with a 52-47 loss to Elton in the first round of the Class A Playoffs. The Tigers end the season with a 2-9 record and were in the Playoff due to the LHSAA dividing the public and private schools into different classes for the playoffs. The game was not decided until the last minute as Logansport failed to score on their last possession and Elton ran out the clock to end the game.

Chance of Rayne?…Never

Article Image Alt Text

By Brad Welborn.

The first round of the 2013 LHSAA 4A playoffs took the number 20 seeded North DeSoto Griffins south on I-49 to Rayne, LA to take on the number 13 seed Rayne Wolves. Like the Griffins the Wolves were making their first playoff appearance in the 4A playoffs after moving up from 3A last year. From the very beginning of the game you could see the game plan that the North DeSoto coaching staff implemented would be key to the Griffins success, control the clock and the ball in order to keep Rayne from having a chance. And control the ball and clock they did.

Griffins Win 5th Straight

Article Image Alt Text

By: Brad Welborn.

On a cool Thursday night in early November the North DeSoto Griffins were able to complete a perfect second half of the season and earn a very respectable 2nd place finish in their first year of district 1-4A play. After a scoreless first quarter the Griffins fell behind 8-0 to the visiting Fair Park Indians when Terrance Demming scored from 4-yard outs and added the 2-point conversion. The Griffins would answer right back only 90 seconds later when Kyler Radford connected with a wide open Damien Boone down the middle of the field for a 43-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 8-7 with 8:29 left in the second quarter.

Article Image Alt Text

By: Raina Wheless.

This past Friday night the Logansport Tigers got their first District and second overall win of the season. Logansport defeated the visiting Northwood-Lena Gators by a score of 26-8. The score could have been even more if not for 2 touchdowns called be on terrible calls by the officials and a Tiger fumble on the Gator 1 yard line. Playing without Senior lineman, Kaleb McClain, the other Tigers stepped up their game to get the victory. With the win the Tigers improve to 2-7 on the season and 1-3 in District 3-1A.

There were only two touchdowns scored by the offenses of North DeSoto and Loyola last Friday night at Griffin Stadium but both of them were by the Griffins and proved to be the deciding points. After a scoreless first quarter the Griffins were finally able to break through with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Radford to Freshman Deone Thomas who caught the ball on a deflection from intended receiver Quentin Spencer.

Griffins win Third Straight

Article Image Alt Text
By: Brad Welborn

It was a bit of unorthodox defense and the leg of kicker Austin Barnes that were key for the Griffins 20-18 win over Woodlawn last Friday night at Lee Hedges Stadium. Barnes kicked two short field goals in the first half and converted two more extra point attempts that proved to be the deciding points in the game. The defense held Woodlawn quarterback James Anderson to just 68 yards on 21 carries and only 63 yards passing on 9 completions in the game.
