Two local youth Shooting Sports organizations receive grant funds from the NRA Foundation. DeSoto Parish 4-H Shooting Sports and the DeSoto Youth Sportsman Team both received funds that enabled the purchase of new equipment and supplies for the youth of DeSoto parish to learn to safely hone their shooting skills
The year 1995 is a fond memory for the citizens of Logansport as they recall the Logansport Tiger’s 33-32 victory over the Mangham Dragons at the Class A State Championship game that was held in the New Orleans Superdome. The December triumph was indeed an early Christmas gift to the entire community, with the sidewalks rolled up while everyone was there to cheer for the Tigers. Kevin Magee, who was the Tiger’s young
quarterback, soon became known as the “Sophomore Sensation” to all the area news media.
An All-Star team comprised of several area teams have been named the number 1 Louisiana 10U AAA team, and will represent Louisiana in the Dixie World Series in Lexington, South Carolina. The competition will be held from August 8 through August 14 at the Lexington Sports Complex, which is located at 507 Ballpark Road

The Louisiana State YHEC (Youth Hunter Education Challenge) was held in Pollack, Louisiana on May 31-June 1, 2014. 160 youth ages 10-18 participated from around the state. The youth shoot 4 events- rifle, shotgun,
muzzle-loader, and archery; and 4 non-shooting events- wildlife identification, safety trail, orienteering, and hunter education test.
Mansfield Middle School Cheerleaders had the privilege of participating in the David Rice Memorial Angel Run on Saturday, May 17th. With the help of community friends and family, MMS cheerleaders were able to give a $1000 donation to Holy Angels! Holy Angels Residential Facility, established in 1965 by the Congregation of Our Lady of Sorrows and the Catholic Diocese, is an independent, residential training facility focused on sustaining a legacy of care for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in our community. First Tee of Northwest Louisiana held its first annual Golf Tournament/Classic on Saturday, May 17 at the Mansfield First Tee course. Several local students from Mansfield Middle and High Schools competed in their first formal golf tournament experience. The highlight of the tournament was that the final results revealed that the Middle School girls scored lower than the boys, resulting in a sweeping victory for the young lady Wolverines.
