DeSoto Parish Clerk of Court Jeremy Evans continually tries to find ways to help bring his office into the modern age of electronics. Since becoming the Clerk of Court, Evans has established the ability to obtain birth certificates, death certificates and passports.

Grove Hill Association to Dedicate Veteran’s Monument on June 4

On Saturday, June 4, the Grove Hill Association and its membership (c. 1840) will host a Veterans’ Monument Dedication Ceremony at 10:00 AM. The observance will take place at its cemetery. We honorably request that you, your family and friends join us in the reverent and patriotic saluting o our fallen sentinels of honor. Those exceptional Men of Valor, who once unselfishly left their loved ones, homes and farms behind to valiantly engage into the various, perilous war periods for us to enjoy the many freedoms of today, will be publicly recognized. These men indeed paid the ultimate sacrifice. Those remembered served in the Seminole, Civil, WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf conflicts.

DPPJ Holds Grand Opening for Alumni Park Splash Pad

On Monday, May 23, the DeSoto Parish Police Jury held a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to Alumni Parkʼs Phase 2 Improvements with the addition of the new Splash Pad. DPPJ President Ernel Jones (pictured center in yellow shirt) is surrounded by children and local officials ready to celebrate with a free hotdog or hamburger and play in the water. Alumni Park and the Splash Padʼs summer hours are Sunday and Monday from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM until 7:30 PM.

Sheriff Arbuckle Awards Scholarships to DeSoto Graduates

On May 23, Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle awarded four scholarships to DeSoto Parish graduates. These students were selected from the applications that were submitted earlier in the year. Victoria Jones and Jaylon Deon Robinson of Mansfield High School and Sami Walters and Brittany Furrow of North DeSoto High School were the 2016 recipients.

Robert “Robbo” Davidson Appointed to LCLE Commission

Lt. Robert “Robbo” Davidson of Mansfield was recently appointed to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Criminal Justice by Speaker of the House Rep. Taylor Barras of New Iberia. The LCLC is an advisory board for law enforcement throughout the state. The LCLC sets policy, develops programs and administers federal grand funding to law enforcement and judicial programs.

DeSoto Deputies Honored with Top Cops Awards in Washington D. C.

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle expressed his congratulations to two DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies on their recent TOP COPS awards. Sgt. Adam Jones and Sgt. David Boudreaux were both presented with awards and recognized for their efforts for rescuing a child involved in an Amber Alert. Both Sgt. Jones and Sgt. Boudreaux, along with other members of the FBI Task Force in Shreveport, responded to a Days Inn hotel in Bossier City following a tip that a nine-year-old girl and her abductor, an uncle by the name of Jesse Williams, were located at the Days Inn hotel.
