Rep. Bagley Presents Flags to Converse High School

On Friday morning, August 25, State Representative, Larry Bagley, presented an American flag and a Louisiana flag to Converse High School. Arranging the presentation was Ricky (K-Wall) Sepulvado, District 7 Sabine Parish Police Jury. Mansfield Aldermen Approve Promotion; Recognize Completion of Class

At the regular City of Mansfield’s Board of Aldermen meeting on August 22, two city employees were recognized due to excellence of their job performances. Mansfield Fire Department firefighter Karen Lee was promoted to Lieutenant. Ms. Lee has been with the department for eight years, and is the first female to ever be promoted to any rank in the history  of the department.

DPSB Announces Appointments to Various Position

At the regular meeting of the DeSoto Parish School Board in August, the Superintendent announced several appointments for the upcoming school year. Dr Cade Brumley recognized these individuals for their effective leadership in the past and shared his hopes for their continued success for students in their new capacities. Appointments made include Director of Administration - Lillie Giles; Director of Operations – Heith Parker; Interim Principal of Mansfield Elementary School – Malekah Salim; Assistant Principal of North DeSoto High School – Russell Tabor; and Administrative Assistant of North DeSoto High School – Anesha Ross.

NDHS Student Detained When Firearm Found in Possession

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle, in conjunction with Dr. Cade Brumley of the DeSoto Parish School Board, has reported an incident that occurred at North DeSoto High School. At about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, a student notified a teacher at North DeSoto High School that they believed another student was in possession of a weapon on school campus. The information was immediately relayed to the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies who are assigned as School Resource Officers. They took appropriate action based off of the information provided and detained the student. A firearm was located.

The Hair Vault Honored with Ribbon

On Thursday, August 18, Amanda Ewing and her staff, were honored with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony as “The Hair Vault” became one of the newest businesses in Stonewall. The business is located at 4974 Hwy 3276 in Stonewall in the shopping center directly in front of Cathey Acres. The Grand Opening went on for several days, with door prizes and catered appetizers available to both clients and visitors.

DeSoto Chamber Welcomes Stonewall Eye Clinic to Business Community

The officers and members of the DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Grand Opening of Stonewall Eye Care on Friday, August 19. Local officials, businessmen and women, as well as family and friends were on hand to celebrate the opening of the new business, which is located at 2434 Hwy 171 in Stonewall. Stonewall Eye Care has two Optometrist on staff, which include Alisa Brogden, O. D. and Neil Brogden, O.D. Also at the facility are Shelly Jackson, Optician and Melissa Davlin, Receptionist. The fully trained staff is there to make you feel comfortable as you have your eyes examined, and they are ready to assist you in selecting the perfect frame for your taste and style. The frame will then be fitted, whether you select prescription eyewear or pick out ready made sunglasses, or have some designed in a particular lens shading.

On August 9, officials, friends, family and member of the DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce welcomed Georgie Girl Cakery to the Stonewall and DeSoto business community. The new bakery boutique and supply shop is located at 2091 Hwy 171 in Stonewall, which was the former location of the Brickhouse Café. The shop also offers a wide array of J. R. Watson spices, flavorings and products.

Southern Cross Reps Return to Mansfield for Lions Club

Representatives of the Southern Cross Transmission Project addressed the Mansfield Lions Club at the group's Tuesday, August 9 gathering at the First Baptist Church. The Project is a proposed 400- mile, 500-kV high-voltage direct current transmission line (HVDC) with a capacity up to 2,000 megawatts.

Sgt. Larry “Nubbin” Boyd Retires from Sheriff’s Department

On Friday, July 29, Sgt. Larry “Nubbin” Boyd was honored with a retirement party at the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Training Facility. Sgt. Boyd is retiring from the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Department after 29 years of service.
