Logansport’s Krewe of Aquarius Selects 2017 Royalty; Ball and Parade Dates Announced

Article Image Alt Text

Plans for Logansport’s Mardi Gras festivities have the 2017 Krewe of Aquarius busy working behind the scenes to make this year’s event the biggest and best celebration ever. The theme selected for this year’s parade is “A Time to Remember”, with float designers challenged to think about some of their favorite moments in their lives, or times in history that have significant meaning. The parade will be held on Saturday, February 11 at 6:00 PM. Chairman Teresa Stephens asks that all parade entries be lined up at Logansport High School by 4:30 PM in order to be judged. The parade route will remain as last year’s…proceeding down Hwy 5, and turning right on Hwy 84, running through downtown Logansport (not the new section). No horses are allowed and no candy will be permitted as a throw. Riders will be able to throw trinkets such as beads, cups, doubloons, stuffed animals, etc. from both sides of the float.

Stonewall Council Votes to Abolish Stonewall Police Department

Article Image Alt Text

During the regular meeting of the Stonewall Town Council, discussion arose about the financial feasibility of continuing the Stonewall Police Department. Councilman Randy Rogers asked to address the Council and guests in attendance about MPERS (Municipal Police Employees Retirement System), and stated to his understanding that the Town would have to generate more sales tax and/or a property tax, which the Town of Stonewall currently does not have, to be able to meet MPERS requirements. Rodgers continued that he estimated the dollar amount to be a 40 mil tax to cover today’s cost and realistically a 50 mil tax to cover future costs. Since the citizens of Stonewall just refused some renewals that were around a 1 mil, Rodgers doesn’t think that the Town could get a property tax to pass.
