Religious and Comic Artwork on Display at the Mansfield Main Library

Edwin L. Myers has been creating art since 1969. Some of his religious and comic artwork is on display at the Mansfield Main Library throughout the month of September. He said, “I enjoy drawing religious, comic and fantasy art. I am inspired in my religious art by the renaissance and the artists of that time. I’m also a comic book and Star Wars nerd.”

Gillyard-Johnson-Mahoney Family Reunion Blesses Family

With over 100 attendees, The Gillyard Johnson Mahoney (GJM) family reunion weekend of Faith, Family and Fellowship, held July 29 -31, 2016 in Mansfield, Louisiana was truly fun, inspirational and a blessing for family members. On July 28th, five members volunteered and prepared and served lunch to clients of the Cognitive Institute and their “Back to School Bash.” This was the third family reunion that the planning team incorporated an optional Day of Service into the reunion. Cognitive Institute is owned and operated by their family member Lou Birda Webb. Ms. Webb stated  “it was truly a blessing to have family members participate in my passion of serving the community that I grew up in.”

First Presbyterian Church Knitting Ministry Makes Donation to DPSO

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle recently accepted a donation of hand knitted animals to the Sheriff’s Office from Melanie Glen of Gloster and her granddaughter Emma. Mrs. Glen is a representative from the knitting ministry at First Presbyterian Church in Shreveport. In addition to Mrs. Glen, Mary Frances Shepherd, Mary Nelson, and Carol Shockey work on knitting animals for children.

Mansfield Garden Club Commercial Award

Laurie Williamsonʼs Edward D. Jones and Company office, which is located at 117 Jefferson Street in Mansfield, has been awarded the Commercial Garden of the Month award. The colorful landscaping includes a multitude of periwinkles of various hues, with tasteful garden adornments to complete the serenity of the area. The Mansfield Garden Club was proud to name them the “August Commercial Garden of the Month”. .

Second Annual “Fifty Mile Trail of Treasures” to be Held Saturday, October 8

Do you have too much “stuff” in your house and you would like a chance to get rid of it while making a little extra cash? Organizers are making plans to help you out with the announcement of the date for the second annual non-ceasing yard sale  to wind through DeSoto Parish and end in Joaquin, Texas. The “Fifty Mile Trail of Treasures” will be a continuous yard sale, with vendors setting up on Hwy 171 as well as on the Stonewall-Frierson Road in Stonewall, where they will continue through Mansfield. Shoppers and treasure seekers will then find their way down Hwy 84 through Stanley and Logansport, cross over the bridge into Texas with Haslam and Joaquin lying at the end of the trail. Of course there will be no booth rentals to participate in the “Fifty Mile Trail of Treasures”, but registration is suggested for promotional purposes.

BackAlley Theatre Announces Line-Up for the New Season

BackAlley Theatre in Grand Cane has announced its new season line-up for 2016-2017. Entering its 16th season in September, the “Little Theatre with Amazing Talent” promises another spectacular year. Following the “Always …Patsy Cline” tradition, BackAlley opens in October with another hit by the same playwright Ted Swindley HONKY TONK ANGELS.

DPPJ Honors Animal Shelter Volunteer Cora Gardner

At a recent meeting of the DeSoto Parish Police Jury, DeSoto Animal Shelter volunteer Cora Gardner was honored with a certificate to commemorate the date. Ms. Gardner, who is a resident of Bossier City, volunteers at the Shelter on a regular basis and works tirelessly to try and find foster or permanent homes for all of the animals, whether they have health issues or not.
