Through the years Americans have learned to respect various religions much better that almost any other country in the world.

Tips for the Lunch Box

Kids are back in school, and one of the most hectic morning chores is to pack a lunch. We want them to eat healthy, but we want them to love it, too. We need make-ahead ideas, and make it easy for kids to pack their own. Here are some great tips for packing a lunch. These are good tips for the adult lunchbox as well.

* Fresh Fruits and Veggies – Veggies are one of the easiest pieces to any lunch box. Scrape and cut carrots into 1/4” strips. Cut broccoli into florets. Celery can be sliced into 3” pieces. Then pack an assortment into individual sandwich bags. Each morning, grab one and toss it in the lunch box. For fruit, toss in an apple, or a bag of grapes, strawberries or a banana.

My heart is burdened for today’s Christian teenagers.

My fear is that, while they may experience a sense of community and love in their church environment, the large majority of them do not know what they believe and why they believe it.

Dr. Sean McDowell, a professor of Christian Apologetics at Biola University in La Mirada, California, as well as a parttime high school Bible teacher, is driven by a desire to help those in “Generation Z” to be able to provide answers and reasons for the supremacy of the Christian faith.

Watching the US Congress fight with Facebook over its new digital currency is like history repeating itself. It is likely that all global currencies are making its way back to gold as the top currency. Government, corporation, and private citizens all seem to want to dictate how we utilize currencies.

It is interesting to think of how one’s mind operates when thinking of topics of historical significance week after week. Of all things the name Virginia Dare came to mind for this week - But who is Virginia Dare?

Early in the colonization of America a colony led by Sir Walter Raleigh was brought to Roanoke Island just off the coast of present day North Carolina. The first group or attempt was in 1584 but it only lasted a year before the weary, half-starved settlers returned to England. Three years later Raleigh sent a second expedition of 117 men, women and children under the leadership of John White. On August 18, 1587 shortly after reaching Roanoke, Governor White’s daughter, Eleanor White Dare gave birth to a daughter who was the first Caucasian child to be born in American. The child was christened Virginia Dare. How interesting that this writer should remember such a small bit of information from his sixth grade in school.

Kitchen Know-How

The kitchen is probably the most used room in a home. In it, we spend time cooking, baking, overseeing homework at the table, or just sitting down with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake to visit with a friend. I spend most of my time in the kitchen not only preparing daily meals, but processing food for late use. It makes my heart sing when I run across a book that has all the things I love to do in one place. So, when I saw this book in the store, I knew it had to become part of my library.

Between the covers, Andrea Chapman covers all the skills you will need to know. She begins with Setting up the Homestead Kitchen (Chapter 1), and covers everything from handling, harvesting and cooking fresh vegetables to curing meats and making sausage. She not only tells you how to make cheese, maple syrup and how to harvest honey, but she also gives you tips on how to pair them.

December 7, 1941 when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor is a day the many older Americans shall never forget. The day after the attack President Franklin D. Roosevelt strapped his steel braces onto this legs and walked into the U.S. House Chamber leaning on his son Jimmy’s arm. F.D.R. was seldom seen out of his wheel chair because of polio he was unable to walk or stand alone. However, on this momentous occasion he was assisted in walking to the podium to address the joint session of Congress and ask for a declaration of war against Japan. This is when he made the famous “A day which will live in infamy” speech.
