The title could be about the first frost of the season and Autumn leaves starting to turn OR this title could be the opening stanza of the second verse from one of my favorite songs by that old Psychedelic Rock band Jefferson Airplane called “If You Feel”?

We had the Fall Carnival Friday night at Stanley. It was very well attended and I think all the kids had a good time. Jason brought Jax over, but all he wanted to do was eat. Aly and Ethan brought Decker, but after chasing him for about 15 minutes, they were ready to go. Cammie brought Trent down. Bre, Alyssa, and Ellie also attended. That is sponsored by the PTO.

This is a follow-up article concerning the Mansfield Female College Museum and Lyceum. The Secretary of State said the Lyceum needed a new roof, a new ceiling, new windows plus several other major items and the State would not be able to complete these. The estimated state cost would be three million dollars. The Friends of the Mansfield Female College realized the absolute need for it to be remodeled for an event center for DeSoto Parish and surrounding areas. Various plans were discussed to carry out these renovations.

A tribute to the family of Mr. Riemer Calhoun, Sr. is long overdue for the presentation of the Mansfield Female College buildings and property to the State of Louisiana as a museum to be enjoyed down through the years. The Mansfield Female College, oldest female college west of the Mississippi River and the “Jewell of DeSoto Parish”, was presented to Secretary of State Fox McKeithen from the front steps of the Museum’s main building in 2002. A large crowd of Mansfield and DeSoto Parish citizens was present and recognized the tremendous donation and its future value to the area. The Calhouns had developed the former three story Administration Building which was now a single story into one of the most gracious homes in the parish.

I don’t know about you, but $40+ dollars just to watch a movie is a little rich for our pocketbook. Instead, we rent one, or even watch the prices in the stores and buy our favorite ones when they are on sale.

Need some inexpensive entertainment tips? Rent a movie. Go fishing. Take a walk. Cook together. There are so many things you can do to entertain yourself at home, and save that money you would otherwise spend on going out. It will also bring you and your family closer together, giving yourself an opportunity to talk more.

Velinda and I babysat this weekend with Jax Arbuckle. His parents, Jason and Erin, went to the LSU game. I was afraid he would cry but I couldn’t ask for a better baby. We took him to a friend of Velinda’s birthday party for 5-year olds. He thought he was as big as they were.

I’d heard that the great Rhythm & Blues Soul artist Ben E. King had died and I wanted to look that up on the internet. His lovely poignant song “Stand By Me” from 1961 is one of my top five favorite songs of all time and is one of those perfect combinations of lyrics and melody I know. When it comes on the radio you want to turn up the volume to hear one more time …. Everytime.
