Arrows flew, clay targets were busted; and written tests were taken— all part of the 4-H North Louisiana region outdoor skills competition held March 23-26. The event, held at the Long Range Gun Club, had more than 900 4-H’ers participate. The number of participants shows how popular the program has become for Louisiana youth, according to David Boldt, LSU AgCenter 4-H shooting sports coordinator.

Now that here in the year of (2016) the first of the (3) major sports in the LSU men’s’ sports program has crashed and burned in a most familiar way one must cast their view towards an unproven as well as youthful men’s baseball team. Though Coach Mainieri has won the big one several years ago the patience exhibited by the LSU faithful does slowly wane perhaps due to coach Johnny Jones and his farewell to arms as well as the repeated forays launched by one Les Miles in the face of utter failure.

Jennifer Simmons, a freshman at Northwestern State University, recently competed as coxswain for three teams on Saturday, March 5 at the Heart of Texas Regatta in Austin. Her proud parents are David Simmons and Karen Evans, both of Stonewall.
Brad Shahan from Deadwood was the high point shooter in the San Augustine Lions Clubʼs sporting clay shoot. Over 80 shooters participated in the shoot held at Fairway Farm in San Augustine on Feb 27th.
On March 1, names were drawn in the gun raffle that was held as a fundraiser of the Logansport High School Baseball Booster’s Club. Three hundred tickets were sold at $100.00 a piece.
