Helen Elizabeth Harris Calhoun

Helen Elizabeth Harris Calhoun died peacefully in her sleep on December 23, 2016. She was born May 20, 1931 in Shreveport, LA, to Jack Edwin Harris and Elizabeth Conly Harris. Helen attended Byrd High School and Louisiana Tech, and married James M. Calhoun on Sept. 2, 1951. She and James moved to Mansfield, LA, in 1952. They were members of First Baptist Church from then until their deaths. Helen taught children’s’ Sunday School and directed children’s’ choirs for many years. She served as church organist for over 40 years. She taught piano lessons, had a ceramic shop at her home, enjoyed Mansfield Garden Club, DeSoto Arts Council, and American Hemerocallis Society. Helen hybridized, named and registered a number of daylily cultivars. James and Helen were in the dairy business, raised beef cattle, and owned Wag-a-Bag convenience stores for 28 years.

Aaron Zane Kirkman (Skooter), 31, of Mansfield, passed away on Saturday December 24, 2016. Born September 25, 1985 to Jonathan Kirkman and Beck Morris. He attended Mansfield High School and got his GED. He worked at Teeco Safety in Shreveport. He loved his boss, Randy Nash, and all his coworkers. He was a loving father, son, friend and fiancée. He cherished life, every moment, he always had a smile on his face. Everyone that knew him, loved him. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his parents, Becky and Randy Morris; his father, Jonathan Kirkman. His son Seth Wayne Owens and his mother Alex Owens. His fiancé Crystal Daniels and her children Jade, Jasmine and Adrian.

Robert Taft (Shane) Pharris

Robert Taft (Shane) Pharris, 62, of Converse, LA, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Shreveport, LA. He was born September 7, 1954 in Beaumont, TX to Robert Taft Pharris and Patsy Kelley Pharris. Shane was preceded in death by his parents. Shane grew up in Pasadena, TX and served as a member of The United States Marine Corps. He is survived by his son, Robert James Pharris of Houston, TX; his brothers, Ronnie Pharris and wife Cindy of Clarendon, TX; Rick Pharris and wife Janet of Mansfield, LA; Randy Pharris of La Porte, TX; Roger Pharris and his wife Elizabeth of Pasadena, TX; and sister Debra Booth and husband John of De Kalb, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation was held at 9 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Aulds Funeral Home in Shreveport. A service of remembrance was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Keithville, LA.

Christopher Ryan Curry

Christopher Ryan Curry, 7, of Logansport, Louisiana, passed away Friday, December 2, 2016, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center where Bro. Frankie Mathis and Sister Melba Rodgers officiated. Interment followed at Willow Grove Cemetery in Shelby County. Christopher was born July 27, 2009, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Ryan Curry and Michelle Garcia Curry. He loved his trucks, wagons and “Hound”. He is survived by Parents: Ryan and Michelle Curry of Logansport, Louisiana, Grandparents: Adonna and Jay McClain of Logansport, Louisiana, Moses and Stephanie Garcia of Houston, Texas,Denise Curry of Logansport, Louisiana, Rocky Curry and wife, Kerin, of Logansport, Louisiana, Great Grandparents: Carol and Iven Moore of Mt.

Donald Eugene Smith

Donald Eugene Smith, born January 30, 1950 in Colfax, LA passed away at his home in Grand Cane, LA on November 11, 2016. He is preceded in death by his father, A.U. Smith and his mother, Jackie Fisher Smith of Colfax. Don was a Veteran of the Vietnam War in which he proudly served his country with honor. He is survived by five children; sons, Donald Eugene Smith, Jr. and wife Deeane, Jessie Smith, Jacob Smith and two daughters, Gina Smith Pomes and husband Paul and Amanda Smith Calk. Brother Bill Smith and sister Geneva Adair and family. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A Memorial service was held at First Community Church in Mansfield, LA by Pastor Toby Shaw. Don became a member of the church in April, 2010. He will be missed by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Raymond Edward Garner

Raymond Edward Garner, 52, of Joaquin, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016, in Center. Visitation was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Chris Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Mr. Garner was born April 7, 1964, in Key West, Florida, to James Burton Garner and Bonlean West Garner. He was a member of Toledo Bend Baptist Church. He is survived by Sister: Karen Clifton and husband, Roger, of Joaquin; Brothers: Thomas Garner and wife, Donna, of Vidalia, Georgia; Sam Garner and wife, Tammy, of Joaquin; Tim Garner and friend, Suzanna Thompson, of Center. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; Aunt: Beaula Webster of Center; Uncle: Bob Holcombe of Arizona.
