June is Too Soon

By Stephen Waguespack

Here we go again. This week, the drumbeat is ramping up for yet another special session to be held in June to increase yet another round of taxes. As a reminder, this will be the third session in the past 12 months where raising taxes is the primary agenda item.

Jobs Worth Saving

by Stephen Waguespack

Louisiana is a sportsman’s paradise outfitted with world-renowned hunting, fishing and countless other outdoor pastimes. Our people clearly understand how fortunate we are to have this bounty of recreational treasures at our fingertips and go to great lengths to appropriately utilize and protect this gift each and every year. At the same time, we are proudly a “working coast” and many Louisianans head to work every day to help find, produce, manufacture and distribute the energy that fuel’s our nation’s economy. For years in Louisiana, sons and daughters have routinely entered the same industry that employed their parents and grandparents in generations past. Sagging oil prices saddle our producers and service companies with more debt than income and this year’s ramp up in Obamacare penalties will put many small to mid-size businesses in an audit trap thanks to a cumbersome maze of new reporting requirements.

Thank You, Mr. Steimel

By Stephen Waguespack

This week, Edward J. “Ed” Steimel passed away at the age of 94. While his name may seem unfamiliar to some; he was well known to many in the arena of Louisiana politics and his contributions to our state for several decades were plentiful and impactful.
