On Monday, March 14, the Mansfield High School Varsity Baseball team hosted a battle on the Wolverine diamond against the Woodlawn Knights from Shreveport. When the dust settled, the Wolverines were victorious with a final score of 18-3.

The Many Bass Club held their third Monthly Tournament of 2022 on the weekend of March 5 and 6. The weather was warm and prefrontal with gusty southeast winds and bright skies. The water temperatures were in the mid to upper 60’s in the back of coves and the main lake temps were in the upper fifties. The fish were in pre-spawn mode and most of the fish were caught shallow from one to 6 feet deep. Twenty-four anglers fished the tournament and eight of them caught five fish limits. There were seven double digit stringers weighed in.

Mansfield High School hosted its annual Wolverine Relays on Thursday, March 10, at Washington-Taylor-Rogers Stadium. Almost 20 area schools participated in the meet, including Mansfield High School and North DeSoto High School, two DeSoto Parish schools.

During the event, tribute was paid to the 1987 Mansfield High School State Championship Track Team. In addition to honoring past track stars from Mansfield, the track meet recognized future track participants: seven MES kindergarteners ran the 100 m dash! According to MHS Track Coach, Mychal Word, the Wolverine Relays featured Mansfield area track past, present, and future.

The Joaquin Lady Rams Powerlifting Team had seven girls qualify for the Regional Meet. Emma Barton, Lauren Neal, Halle Bonner, Kyleigh Avery, Shelbi Miller, Emma Raybon and Riley Mullins (not pictured). These girls competed at Rice High School in the Region 3 -1A/2A Division. We are extremely excited and proud of the hard work these ladies put in this season. Every lifter set a personal best at the meet. Congratulations ladies on a job well done. Halle Bonner finished 2nd in her division and will represent Joaquin at the State Powerlifting Meet in Corpus Christi on March 16th. Good luck Halle! (submitted)

Online Grocery Purchasing Now Available for All Louisiana EBT Cardholders

Louisiana households currently receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, formerly known as Food Stamps, can now order groceries online at Walmart stores throughout Louisiana.

While Walmart is the first retailer to receive approval through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service online purchasing program, DCFS officials expect the program to rapidly spread to other retailers.

The MHS Lady Wolverine Basketball team defeated Northwest High school in a home game on Monday, February 21. The final score was 46-35; this 2nd round playoff victory moved the Lady Wolverines into the 3rd round of playoff action on Thursday, February 24

The MHS Lady Wolverines were eliminated from the playoffs in the 3rd round, when they lost to the Albany High School Hornets. After 4 quarters of back-and-forth action from the two teams, the Lady Wolverines were defeated with a final score of AHS 62, MHS 54.

The Wolverine Boys Basketball Team was defeated in the first round of the playoffs. They were defeated by Frederick A. Douglass High School; final score 60 - 58. It was a tough, and well played game by both sides.

Congratulations, Wolverines and Lady Wolverines, for an excellent season full of excitement. We are proud of you all, and it’s a great day to be a Wolverine!

The Mansfield High School Wolverines finished their regular season action with an overtime win over district opponent Green Oaks. The game was originally scheduled earlier in the season but was postponed. The game was played Friday, February 18, at Green Oaks High School. The excitement ended in overtime with the MHS Wolverines as the victors — MHS 49, GOHS 45.
