Keep DeSoto Beautiful Looks Ahead to Exciting New Year

Keep DeSoto Beautiful Looks Ahead to Exciting New Year

Happy New Year, everyone!

Many of our activities have been impacted by the pandemic. We have been working on plans for 2021 during this downtime for our official affiliation in the first quarter of the year. We wrote and received a grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful to help promote a clean and healthy DeSoto Parish. We also held an electronics recycling and paper-shredding event.

Parish Mardi Gras Parades Cancelled Due to COVID-19 in 2021

Parish Mardi Gras Parades Cancelled Due to COVID-19 in 2021

The Grinch may not have stolen Christmas in DeSoto Parish with everyone realizing that Christmas indeed is a little bit more than ribbons, packages, lights, and decorations, but Covid has stolen yet one more of our freedoms that we all have taken for granted…the celebration of Mardi Gras, including parades. The day that we recognize as the birth of Jesus Christ was still celebrated, although in most cases were in smaller family groups and in each person’s own special way. How we celebrate Mardi Gras will once again be left up to each individual and their religious beliefs.

St. Nick Thrilled Over Enterprise’s Special Santa Section & Pastor’s Christmas Columns; Thank you, Sponsors!

St. Nick Thrilled Over Enterprise’s Special Santa Section & Pastor’s Christmas Columns; Thank you, Sponsors!

It has been a tradition for The Enterprise to team up and help Santa with his letters from DeSoto Parish, Joaquin, and Pleasant Hill children for several decades. This year with postal issues plaguing the country he needed our help more than ever.

Believe me, we did our part with special Santa letter elf Kaycee Deas, along with staff members Martha Rivers and Julie Morris typing over 18 pages of letters that expressed the children’s heartfelt wishes and want lists. To our unsung behind the scenes graphics designer for NTN, Jim McAlphin,...you did a fantastic job on the Santa Letter cover and layout while placing the letters in just the right order. We thank you!

Police Jury Selects Alternate Replacement for District 2 Seat Vacancy

Police Jury Selects Alternate Replacement for District 2 Seat Vacancy

At the December 16 meeting of the DeSoto Parish Police Jury, members declined to accept the nomination of Stonewall resident Kyle Kennington that was suggested by outgoing member for District 2 Nicholas Gasper. Gasper resigned his position earlier that week to be sworn in as 42nd Judicial Judge Section A on December 21.

At the start of the meeting, Kennington introduced himself to the jury. His face should be a familiar one to all members since he has attended most every jury meeting for the last two or more years. Kennington, who is a Senior Vice President for Community Bank, said that he would qualify in January to be a candidate for the position on the March 20, ballot.

Happy New Year Traditions Celebrated and Remembered

Happy New Year Traditions Celebrated and Remembered

The year 2020 is probably one of worst years in both American and world-wide history due to the dreaded words of COVID-19. Everyone seems ready for this year to pass on by as quietly as possible, but the celebration of greeting a new year will still be brought in with hope for much better health, wealth and happiness. True the celebration as we greet 2021 may not be as lavish and populated nor held in venues that parties are usually held in, but we will move forward making new customs for this year with hope that we can return to as normal of a life style as possible.

DPPJ Makes Historical Vote Declining to Accept Juror’s Replacement

On December 16, the DeSoto Parish Police Jury called a special meeting, mainly to replace Nicholas Gasper, who is the Juror for District 2. Gasper resigned his position as of December 15, 2020 due to winning the 42nd Judicial Section B Judge’s seat in November.

The customary procedure for Jury replacement before the end of a term is letting the outgoing juryman select his successor. That person then serves temporarily until an election can be held where voters select their new board representative. It has been done this way as far back as anyone can remember, until this meeting.
