BackAlley Community Theatre is thrilled to present our first show of our 2024 Summer Concert Series, Terry, Rocky, and Friends: On the Radio. Join us in Grand Cane as two of our favorite performers, Terry Sparks and Rocky Maddox, join a talented group of vocalists and musicians, as we travel through the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s with many of our much-loved songs.

Henrietta CM Presents Southern Plainsmen in Concert

Henrietta CM, located at 4242 Hwy 191, will host the well known gospel group The Southern Plainsmen in concert on Sunday, June 30 with refreshments served afterwards.

The Southern Plainsmen were organized in May 1978 in the rolling pine-hills of West-Central Louisiana and is an outreach of the Southern Plainsmen Ministries, Inc., a non-profit Christian organization. The ministry, supported by the contributions of its Christian friends, appears in Christian churches regardless of denominational affiliation on an expense plus freewill-love-offering basis.

McAllen Named to Chancellor’s Honor Roll at the U. of Mississippi

Allison McAllen, of Stonewall, LA, was named to the University of Mississippi’s Spring 2024 Honor Roll lists.

McAllen, majoring in Real Estate, was named to the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.75-4.00.

“The remarkable students achieving Chancellor’s Honor Roll are among the best and brightest at the University of Mississippi,” Chancellor Glenn Boyce said. “I commend them for their hard work and dedication resulting in their outstanding academic achievements and this well-deserved recognition.”

To be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester.

Alayna Griffith of Stonewall Graduates from Harding Univ.

Alayna Griffith of Stonewall is one of more than 700 students who received diplomas and were recognized as Harding University graduates during the Spring 2024 commencement ceremony on May 4, 2024.

Griffith received a Bachelor of Arts in communication sciences and disorders.

Graduates include students from the College of Allied Health, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Bible and Ministry, Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration, Cannon-Clary College of Education, Carr College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and Honors College.

University President Mike Williams recognized the candidates as they were recommended by the faculty for graduation.

Xavier University of Louisiana’s Taylor Dewitt was named Wednesday to the 2023-24 All-Louisiana women’s basketball third team

A Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of college publicists and sports media selected the team and major awards.

Dewitt — a 5-foot-11 fifth-year guard/forward from Mansfield, La., and a graduate of Mansfield High School — averaged 12.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals in 32 games for a 25-7 Gold Nuggets team that tied for second place in the Red River Athletic Conference regular season, finished second in the RRAC Tournament and earned an automatic bid to NAIA nationals.

Dewitt was first-team All-RRAC and a twotime RRAC Player of the Week this past season. She was the first player in 14 years to lead the Gold Nuggets in scoring and rebounding in the same season, and her 139 made free throws are No. 3 on the Gold Nuggets’ all-time season list.

Graduating ROTC cadets take oath as 2nd lieutenants

Northwestern State University’s 74th Demon Battalion and Department of Military Scienc hosted a commissioning ceremony May 9 for graduating seniors who took the oath of office to serve as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army. The event was held in conjunction with spring commencement exercises in which the four earned undergraduate degrees as ROTC cadets.

The new officers are 2nd Lt. Peyton Bordelon of Alexandria, 2nd Lt. Loren Higginbotham of Jennings, 2nd Lt. Breanna James of Stonewall and 2nd Lt. Andrew Wesley of Shreveport. Bordelon earned a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice with a minor in military leadership. Working to become a Medevac pilot and flight officer, he will train to fly the UH-60 Black Hawk as an Army aviator in the Louisiana Army National Guard.

BackAlley Presents Final Weekend Presentation of Wage Warfare

Join us this weekend at BackAlley Community Theatre in Grand Cane for our final laughter-filled weekend with Wage Warfare. Young Hope finds herself sandwiched between prim Bonnie and surly Louise, with the only apparent relief is a sudden opportunity for promotion. Antics ensue when the three women all vie for the promotion, along with a hapless boss, Mr. Clogsworth, and a rising star — Aaron Starr.

The Books and Biscuits April meeting took place at Debbie Carr’s house. Debbie, who is always a wonderful hostess, made wonderful ham and cheese sliders for us to enjoy. Others brought deviled eggs, chips and dip and a wonderful cake. Since April was our book selection month, members brought many books for selection, but, as always, we had to narrow the list.
