Stonewall businesses have banded together to host the Stonewall Spring Market on Saturday, March 25 at 2068 Hwy 171 from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Come join in the fun for shopping, food, music, and more.

Lifetime residents, born and raised in Louisiana, George and Gracie Pugh will celebrate their 70th Anniversary for being by each other’s side. They have resided in Stonewall for the last 40 years, where they have been faithful attendees of the Salem Baptist Church. George will celebrate his 90th birthday in May 2023, and Gracie turned 86 years young this past December 25.

Please stop by and wish them well on Saturday, March 25 at 3:00 p.m. at the Salem Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Their granddaughter, Nicholle Pugh mentioned how many changes and inventions that the Pughs must have seen and lived through during their lengthy life span on Earth! The Zwolle Hawks has met a record tying 16th time in school history as they returned home with a Boys Basketball State Championship after a 40 to 25 win over the Anacoco Indians in the 2023 LHSAA Division V Non-Select Championship game. To quell any unease Louisiana citizens may have regarding the state’s finances in light of the banking collapse in California last week, State Treasurer John M. Schroder released the following statement: “The money belonging to Louisiana taxpayers is safe. Treasury has no exposure to the banks that have been in the news this week. We monitor our bank accounts daily, keeping only enough cash to cover our daily transactions. We are a very conservative steward of the State’s fiscal assets.”

The DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce has chosen Thursday, March 30 for the 93rd Annual Banquet. The location of the awards event will be held at the Clista A. Calhoun Center, located at 515 Louisiana Street in Mansfield. The banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Reservations for this year’s banquet will be $55.00 per person or $320.00 for a table of eight. A cash bar will be available with wine and beer. The admission fee will include a catered dinner by a DeSoto Parish restaurant. Reservations were due by by March 20, 2023. Call the Chamber at 318872-1310.

A recent trip to the Love Truck Terminal on 1-49 and US Hwy. 84 in DeSoto shows things moving nicely as they reach completion. The restaurant that will be attached to the terminal is not Arby’s, but is Godfather’s Pizza, which is a chain headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Their menu includes a wide variety of pizzas, breadsticks, chips, cookies, and pastas, and four different types of crust: Original, Golden, Mozza-Loaded, and Thin. They also have introduced a glutenfree pizza made from rice flour. Some locations carry a buffet, but it is unknown if this one in DeSoto will be one of those.

Logansport’s Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 2nd Annual Egg-Stravaganza on the Sabine will be held on Saturday, April 8 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Dennis Freeman Memorial Riverfront Park in Logansport. There will be games and food, along with the Egg Drop from the helicopter. The event is sponsored by the Logansport Chamber and DeSoto Parish Tourist Bureau, with help from the DeSoto Parish Sheriff ’s Office. Bring your sunscreen, insect repellant, folding chairs, blankets, and Easter baskets for this family day of fun.

Sheriff Jayson Richardson would like to announce the retirement of Sergeant Carol Sue Richardson from the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office. A very special retirement party was held on March 8th where dozens of coworkers, family, friends, and other recent retirees came to congratulate Sgt. Richardson on her more than 28 years of service with DeSoto, and 35 years overall in law enforcement!
