Governor Edwards Extends Current Phase Two Order; LABI CEO Responds with Disappointment

On July 21, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that he will extend Louisiana’s current Phase Two order, which also includes a statewide mask mandate, limits indoor social gatherings to 50 people and prohibits on-premises consumption of alcohol at bars for another two weeks, as COVID-19 incidence remains high across the state and hospitalizations continue to rise. All of the latest restrictions outlined in the Phase Two order are in keeping with recommendations from the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

Sheriff Richardson Announces Promotion of Sgt. Coleman

Sheriff Richardson would like to announce the recent promotion of Deputy Kevin Coleman. Having worked with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff ’s Office for seven years now, Sgt. Coleman served as a Corporal in the Detention Center before moving into his most recent position as a School Resource Officer at Logansport High School for the past 2 years.

On June 22, 2020, he was promoted to Sergeant, and will now serve as Community Liaison for the DeSoto Parish Sheriff ’s Office.

Sgt. Coleman’s vision for his new role is to unite the community and the Sheriff ’s Office together through community projects, serving our Senior Citizens and Youth, as well as keeping an open line of communication between our department and the public.

CAD Women of DeSoto Honor 2020 Graduates with Scholarships

The Committed, Active, and Dedicated (CAD) Women of DeSoto Parish want to extend hardy congratulations to their scholarship recipients for 2020. CAD is a service organization whose primary goal is giving back to the community, including all of DeSoto.

Currently, CAD consists of thirteen ladies that work hard with philanthropy projects. Through fundraisers the group has been able to provide scholarships to deserving high school seniors that are attending college.

Trump and Biden Easily Win Presidential Primaries in DeSoto, State

Even with a low voter turnout President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joseph “Joe” Biden received the majority of votes in the Louisiana Presidential Primary that was held on Saturday, July 11. Democrats also selected a representative for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) between Erica F. Durr and Jackie Lansdale.

On Saturday, July 11, 2020, Governor John Bel Edwards issued a statewide mask mandate to the citizens of Louisiana. This mandate applies to citizens 8 years old and older with an exemption for those with health issues that may prevent them from wearing a mask. We know that DeSoto Parish Citizens will have questions regarding the implementation and enforcement of this mandate.
