On July 20, a patrol unit from DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 613 Catuna Road in Catuna in reference to a complaint of numerous dogs in bad health conditions. When DeSoto Animal Control and the deputy arrived at the address, three dogs could be seen from the road that appeared to be severely malnourished.

Upon further inspection, the deputy and Animal Control were able to locate six more dogs at the residence. All nine dogs appeared to have been deprived of adequate water, food, or shelter during the 100-plus degree weather. One dog was located with severe injuries to its facial area, while eight dogs were tied to a tree by heavy chains. No residents were home at the time. SAFE Expands to Frierson

Article Image Alt Text

DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office has spent the past six weeks traveling around the parish to visit senior citizens as part of their Security Awareness for the Elderly (SAFE) Program. Frierson was one of the few areas in the parish that did not have a senior citizen complex for the sheriff and deputies to meet with the citizens. DPSO turned to the Fire District 9 Ladies Auxiliary to help find a place for them to meet.

“We worked with the Ladies Auxiliary here in Frierson and were able to secure a date and a time, and they got with the community,” Sheriff Jayson Richardson said. “We’re just glad we were able to come out and be able to fellowship with the people here and pass on some much needed information, and also just build some new relationships in the community, not just with myself, but with our deputies, and inviting the fire department as well to join in.”
