Providing Choice is the Best Choice

By Stephen Waguespack

Life is about the choices we make. Whether big or small, made in the blink of an eye, or after much consideration; the choices we make throughout our lives tell the story of our very existence. Some of these choices are consequential while others are seemingly nefarious to the larger picture. It is only with time that we learn the categories in which those choices ultimately fall.

DIGGIN’ IN DESOTO

By John Blanchard

There’s a running “rooster fight” between we boys with the pen and ink and office holders of both small and large duties. Right before and after World War II we became affiliated with people with rank. We have been, for this most part, disappointed with the right to serve the offices to which they have been elected. Our friend, the late Congressman Joe D. Waggoner Jr., was an exception to the rule as he served in the House of Representatives ably for 17 years. For one reason we admired him was he introduced this country reporter to President Richard M. Nixon who told us that his family owned a newspaper in Whittier, CA. There was a small line back of me and Mary and I said we’d better move and the president said “I’ll take care of that” he advised, “better collect for those ads”.

Thank you businesses of all sizes

By Stephen Waguespack

A message to the Louisiana employers out there: Thank you for what you do to make this state great. Much has been discussed over the last two months about the legislative session and its crusade to raise taxes. We at LABI, along with countless others in the business community, have aggressively explained the consequences to Louisiana’s economy that can result should this be done in a cavalier way.
