There’s a running “rooster fight” between we boys with the pen and ink and office holders of both small and large duties. Right before and after World War II we became affiliated with people with rank. We have been, for this most part, disappointed with the right to serve the offices to which they have been elected. Our friend, the late Congressman Joe D. Waggoner Jr., was an exception to the rule as he served in the House of Representatives ably for 17 years. For one reason we admired him was he introduced this country reporter to President Richard M. Nixon who told us that his family owned a newspaper in Whittier, CA. There was a small line back of me and Mary and I said we’d better move and the president said “I’ll take care of that” he advised, “better collect for those ads”.
