Bill and Ray, good friends, had been flirting with Maria and Ann Davis, sisters about one year apart in age. Bill, almost one year older and taller than Ray, had chosen Maria and Ray picked Ann. Ray’s daddy’s land ran ? mile toward the river with an old model “A” truck road along the fence line. Girls in those days didn’t wear pants except when chopping and picking cotton – certainly not on a Sunday afternoon date. Off the group went on bicycles with the girls in their dresses sitting sideways in front of the boys for the ? mile down the old road. As they crossed a creek bridge Ann grabbed Ray’s arm in fright and her touching his arm almost made him have a wreck but it was an enjoyable moment.
