Dorothea Mae Smith, 90, of Logansport, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on March 20, 2021 in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

A visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Logansport, Louisiana on Saturday, April 3, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Graveside services honoring her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Bethel Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Bro. Frankie Mathis.

Dorothea was born on October 20, 1930 in Woodville, Texas to Frank E. Wheeland and Evilene Mills Wheeland. Dot grew up in a sawmill community near Chireno, Texas called Sutton Lumber Company, where her Father was employed. This is where she met the love of her life Floyd.

In the early part of the 1950s, Dot settled in Logansport, Louisiana with her husband Floyd Smith and their two boys. This would be where she raised her boys and set down her roots. Her spouse, Floyd, was one of a large family of Smiths and Galloways from the Bethel Community, so they had love and support of extended family. Dot, as everyone called her, worked at the local Western Auto store for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Logansport. She was a faithful supporter of the LHS football team and attended the games to root on her sons, Larry and Kenneth. She loved cooking for her family, especially on Sundays. She made the best fresh coconut cake you could possibly taste. Dot had many talents, but her favorite was crocheting afghans and doilies, and making Cabbage Patch dolls for her grandchildren and many other girls in the community. She will be missed by her loving family, but we know she is smiling with Jesus and her loved ones in Heaven

Preceding Dorothea in death are her parents, Frank and Evilene Wheeland; Husband, Floyd P. Smith; Sons, Larry Wayne Smith, Kenneth Floyd Smith; Brothers, Walter Eugene Wheeland, and Billy Frank Wheeland.
