DPPJ Approves Parish-Wide Vote on April Ballot for Animal Services
Meeting Dates to Change Monthly Order

At the February 8 regular meeting, the DeSoto Parish Police Jury approved an agenda item authorizing a resolution that would approve a parish-wide vote on the April ballot for a tax that would fund not only animal control but also mosquito abatement. Since mosquito control was completely cut from the 2021 budget, this measure is very important with the control of West Nile Virus.

Guest Terri Burford mentioned that she thought the changing of meetings where the regular and committee meetings would exchange weeks was a good thing, giving Jurors time to study matters more thoroughly and seek information that they might need. She also voiced her opinion that the Jury website needed someone to update it on a regular basis, with Secretary Jodi Zeigler commenting that she would be working with another employee to see that this is done.

President Reggie Roe announced that committees had been assigned saying that members needed to cross aisles and talk to committee chairs and try to work together. He also suggested that the items on the agenda needed to indicate the mover of the item.
