Did You Know?

Did You Know?
Did You Know?

The first paragraph of this article is research on Alexander Graham Bell concerning the telephone. The remainder is personal knowledge which may all be facts or not! Bell’s passion in life was to help deaf people speak. On March 10, 1876 while tinkering with some electrical wires he spilled acid from a battery onto the wires and his clothes. He called out to Thomas Watson, his helper, to “Come here, I want you.” These words were picked up on the wires and thus the telephone was invented.

Now, the telephone story as I remember over almost the past century. My good friend, Jerry Gamble who is now deceased, was telling me about the first telephone system west of Grand Cane, La. It was similar to the ones that I was familiar with as a very young child. We talked and laughed about those long ago times and he suggested I write a “Did You Know” article about that. Jerry, this article is dedicated to you and all the Historical Buffs in the Parish.
