If you’ve driven down Polk Street heading east on Hwy 84, chances are you’ve seen a man on a crane bravely battling the wind and the cold as he endeavors to make the side of the old First National Bank building look more inviting to residents and visitors alike. The mural is a beautification project being funded by Mansfield in Motion (MIM).

In October 2019, MIM formed a Murals Subcommittee in search of an artist to paint on the side of vacant buildings in Mansfield, with themes such as family, community, and patriotism to be considered. Finalists submitted their renderings to be considered, with former Louisiana resident Matthew Yerby being awarded the job. Yerby attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and now calls North Hollywood, CA home.

Yerby’s love of the arts has him working in several artistic mediums as an photographer, actor, and of course, an artist by way of painting. He has always had a passion for all of these various methods to express his talents and is an encourager of others.
