DeSoto Voters Go to the Polls this Saturday

On December 8, all DeSoto voters will be selecting a candidate for Louisiana Secretary of State due to a runoff in the November 6 election. Incumbent Kyle Ardoin (R) will face Gwen Collins-Greenup (D) in the special election.

Also Parishwide, the DeSoto Parish Police Jury is asking that you approve to renew a levy special tax of one and twenty-six hundredths

(1.26) mills on all property subject to taxation in the parish, which is an estimated $854,402 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year. If approved, the levy would be for a period of ten years, beginning with the year 2019 and ending with the year 2028, for the purpose of maintaining and operating the DeSoto Parish Courthouse and Courthouse Annex. If the proposition fails, then the Jury will be forced to make severe cuts while they meet the challenges of readjusting the parish budget. The levy is a RENEWAL, not a new tax, so there would be no increase in the parish taxes that property owners currently pay.
