The question is frequently asked – who was the last surviving Mansfield Female College student? After researching and seeking it was determined by this writer that Mrs. Mary Ricks Dixon held that honor at her death several years ago. Mrs. Dixon was interviewed and the following article are notes from that personal interview.

Mary Lilline Ricks was just 16 years old when she graduated from Mansfield High School. Her parents felt she was just too young to go off to college and in addition they couldn’t afford to send her off to college. Mary enrolled at MFC in 1930. Unfortunately the college closed that same year due to the Great Depression and due to the state supported colleges offering less expensive registration and tuition.
