DPSB Honors State Championship Wrestler, Chase Bates; Approves 2017-18 School Calendar

At the March 7 meeting of the DeSoto Parish School Board, North DeSoto High School athlete Chase Bates was honored, with family, friends and NDHS staff there to support him as he was recognized. Chase is the first Louisiana State Wrestling Champ in North DeSoto history. The wrestling team as a whole concluded a successful season with the District 1-4A Title, a 3rd Place at Regionals; a 5th Place finish at Lone Survivor, a 2nd Place finish in the Ark-La-Tex Duals and a 3rd Place finish at Riot on the Red. Chase himself is credited with 67 pins and 100 wins for the year. The team has only been competing for about two years under the instruction of Coach Caleb Guidry, who stated that interest in their wrestling program has really increased with student participation as well as developing a fan base with Griffin supporters.

Director of Student Learning Kathy Noel presented the 2017-18 school calendar, with the Board giving a unanimous approval. Parameters to consider for the school calendar decisions included to support improving student achievement, and will be comprised of a minimum of 63,720 minutes of instructional time that must be met. In DeSoto Parish that breaks down to 385 minutes of instructional time per day for 168 days.
