Former DeSoto Educator Has Scholarships Initiated in Her Honor

Members of the Gallaspy family presented a distribution of over $2.6 million from the estate of the late Mary Rives Gallaspy to support scholarships at Northwestern State University. Gallaspy, a 1946 graduate of Northwestern State, was a DeSoto Parish educator, businesswoman and philanthropist known for her generosity and dedication to her church and community.

LHS Students Provide Over 1,000 Christmas Cards for Heroes

Students, faculty and staff members at Logansport High School provided over 1000 Christmas cards through the “Christmas Cards for Heroes” project sponsored by the American Red Cross. Students in grades PreK-12 either made cards or wrote notes to our United Statesʼ military people who will be spending Christmas overseas.

Ticaya Terriuntay Davis has been Kristen Cowan and Peyton Dufour selected to be Miss Merry Christmas of Mansfield for the 2013 festival and parade. Miss Davis is the daughter of proud parents Latoya Washington and Jonathan Perry, Sr., and Terreyton and Kyta Davis. Grandparents of the Christmas Queen are Mary and 
Dolphus Atkins, Jr., Kathy and Oscar Evans, Sr., and Katherine Perry and Gary Clark.

Rebel State Historic Site Celebrates 12th Annual Country Christmas Lights Display

Guests are invited to Rebel State Historic Site and the Louisiana Country Music Museum, during the month of December, to see over 75,000 Christmas lights and displays, hear the sounds of traditional Christmas music and visit with Santa Claus. The site will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday, with Christmas light display viewing from 5 – 9 p.m., Dec. 3 until Dec. 21. Visits with Santa will be Dec. 7, 14, and 21 from 6 – 8 p.m., where children can whisper their wish lists into the jolly man’s ear. Guests can take part in a variety of Christmas games and activities, in addition to visiting with Santa.

Mansfield Lions Count Their Blessings and Celebrate Thanksgiving

Delman Rogers, pastor of the San Patricio Baptist Church, was guest speaker for the Mansfield Lions Club as they celebrated Thanksgiving, complete with a Thanksgiving feast, at their regular bi-monthly meeting for November. Rev. Rogers reminded members that through our trials in life, and the sacrifices of many, God is always with us to comfort, protect and guide us during our days on Earth. Mansfield Christmas Parade Date Draws Nearer

Santa’s Elves and the Mansfield Alive! Committee have been hard at  work with planning and decorating for the 2013 City of Mansfield Christmas Parade. The annual event will be held on the second Saturday of December, which falls on December 14, beginning at 2:00 PM. Organizers invite you to come celebrate the Season with them, with the annual event even bigger and better than last year.

In a brief and solemn ceremony officiated by the Reverend L.J. Mayweather, Raymond Jones and Brenda Powell, both of Mansfield, Louisiana, were married in the bride’s home on October 26, 2013 at 4 p.m. The bride wore a satin animal print suit with a gathered ruffled collar. The groom wore black slacks and a dress black shirt with inlaid stripes of the same color

BackAlley Theatre Ushers in Christmas Season with Gospel/Bluegrass Christmas Show

John Neilson and Kim Litton will bring back the Singing Sanders Family as Burl and Vera Sanders in the December Christmas show at BackAlley Theatre. Running Dec 5,6,7 and 12 ,13 at the theater inGrand Cane and Dec. 14 at theCalhoun Center in Mansfield, the play showcases 20 beautiful Christmas songs with a bluegrass sound.
