Mansfield’s Annual Christmas Festival and Parade

Santa is on his way with children of all ages ready to greet him as he visits DeSoto Parish during Mansfield’s Annual Christmas Parade and Festival this Friday and Saturday, December 13 and 14. The event is hosted by the Mansfield Alive! Committee, and will include not only the Christmas parade, but activities as well. Those attending the events will gather around the DeSoto Parish Courthouse Square, where music, food and fun will be  the main focus. There also will be a
karaoke contest and dance contest on both nights of the festival.

Mansfield Main Library Expansion To Begin

On Saturday, November 30 the Mansfield Main Library closed their doors on the old facility one last time as they began the move to their temporary quarters directly across the street from the present library. The move is necessary to vacate the current location so that the remodeling and expansion project can begin. DeSoto Parish Library Director Linn Landis stated that the library would re-open after the move on Monday, December 9 at 9:00 AM when the phone and computer lines will have been connected.

Get in the Christmas Spirit - 7th Annual Pioneer Christmas Parade & Trade Day

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Come get in the holiday spirit on Saturday, Dec. 7th from 10:00am until 2:00pm as the Historic Grand Cane Association (HGCA) and Becky & Don Bates celebrates our 7th Annual Pioneer Christmas Parade & Trade Day. Don Bates of Grand Cane has again done an outstanding job of enlisting entries, from near and far, for an all horse and mule drawn wagon and carriage parade. He reports there should be up to 20 entries that will participate.

DeSoto Chamber Honors Stonewall Business with Ribbon Cutting

Almost Forsaken, a new Stonewall business offers custom painted furniture, cabinetry and monogramming, was honored with a ribbon cutting on Saturday, November 23. The business that refurbishes and redesigns furniture also offers Van Gogh chalk paint and furniture makeup.

Hometown Hero Honored with Candlelight Vigil

On November 20, area officials and friends gathered at Washington- Taylor-Rogers Stadium on the campus of Mansfield High School, but there were no football teams, no marching bands or loud athletic fans. The stands were filled with a type of cheerleaders, although they were a bit subdued as they remembered Staff Sgt. Richard Vazquez who died while serving his third tour in Afghanistan. His sister, Christine Vazquez stated that Vazquez, a 28-year-old Green Beret laid down his life for his men and country.

Logansport's " A Storybook Christmas" Festival And Parades This Weekend

Christmas through the eyes of a child is what the organizers of this year´s Longansport Christmas Festival had in mind when year's theme was selected entitled " A Storybook Christmas - Miracle on Main". Event Chairman Debbie Amox Stated that most all of us can remember aspecial time when a favorite book a being read to us by a parent, grand. relative or teacher.

Candlelight Vigil to be Held in Honor of Sgt. Richard Vazquez Wednesday Evening

A candlelight vigil has been set for Wednesday, November 20, beginning at 6:00 PM to honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Richard Lee Vazquez of Mansfield, who died as a result of wounds sustained while serving his country. The memorial will be held at Washington-Taylor-Rogers Stadium on the Mansfield High School Campus, located on Hwy84, in Mansfield.

Pioneer Christmas Parade Features“Treasure Chest” Raffle December 7th

On Saturday, December 7th, The Historic Grand Cane Association (HGCA) will be offering a prize packed “Treasure Chest” to be raffled during the upcoming Pioneer Christmas Parade and Trade Day. The Treasure Chest is now on display at the Capital One Grand Cane Branch and is filling up daily with an array of prizes. Tickets for the raffle are available, in advance, at Capital One Bank, Grand Cane branch. Tickets may also be purchased from HGCA Board members and at the HGCA booth the day of the event. Tickets are $1.00 each.

City of Mansfield Christmas Parade Slated for December 14

Santa’s Elves and the Mansfield Alive! Committee have been hard at work with planning and decorating for the 2013 City of Mansfield Christmas Parade. The annual event will be held on the second Saturday of December, which falls on December 14, beginning at 2:00 PM. Organizers invite you to come celebrate the Season with them, with the annual event even bigger and better than last year.
