DeSoto Schools Announces Christopher Thomas as Principal of Mansfield High School

DeSoto Parish Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Christopher Thomas as the next Principal of Mansfield High School. Mr. Thomas, a lifelong resident of DeSoto Parish and a proud alumnus of Mansfield High School, brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted commitment to the Mansfield community.

Mr. Thomas is a member of the Mansfield High School Class of 1994 and was a part of the school’s 1991 State Championship football team. He has dedicated his career to the success of DeSoto Parish students, beginning in 2001 when he joined Mansfield High School as a Special Education and American History teacher. During his tenure, he also served as assistant football coach, head boys basketball coach, and head baseball coach. In 2016, Mr. Thomas transitioned to Logansport High School, where he has excelled in the role of Assistant Principal.

DeSoto Parish Schools is proud to announce that the Louisiana Department of Education has named Mrs. Bettie Carter a 2025 Outstanding School Support Employee State Finalist. This well-deserved honor celebrates over five decades of unwavering service, dedication, and excellence in education from a true pillar of the Mansfield school community.

Mrs. Carter has been a steadfast presence in the Mansfield Schools for more than 50 years. Known for her tireless commitment and deep connection to the Mansfield Wolverines, she is as much a part of the school’s identity as its colors and traditions. Her late husband, Mr. Fred Carter, served as a beloved disciplinarian and football coach at Mansfield High School, and together, they became champions of Mansfield student success.

DeSoto Parish Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Melanie Matthews as the new Assistant Principal of North DeSoto High School. A dedicated educator with 14 years of experience, Mrs. Matthews brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and a deep-rooted commitment to student success.

Mrs. Matthews has served in various educational roles across DeSoto and Caddo Parishes, including 10 years as a classroom teacher and four years in administration. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and has consistently demonstrated a passion for helping students thrive academically and personally.

As a proud resident of DeSoto Parish and the parent of two students currently attending North DeSoto schools, Mrs. Matthews is deeply connected to the community and is eager to contribute to the continued growth and excellence of North DeSoto High School.

Earlier in the month of April, The Enterprise ran a list that was forwarded to us from the Chamber. As we hurried to get that information in the edition we were working on, we later discovered that we had been sent the 2024 Chamber winners. The following people were the actual winners this year. DPSO Plans Fish Fry Fundraiser for Nina Butler Family

We will be hosting a Fish Fry fundraiser for Corrections Sgt. Luther Butler and his wife Nina at the Old Market Basket parking lot on May 15th at 11 a.m. Plates are $15 each and will contain fried fish, french fries, hushpuppies, dessert and a drink. Diagnosed with Stage 3 Kidney Disease in 2016, Nina Butler is currently seeking a life-saving Kidney Donor. All funds received from this fundraiser will go to assist the Butler family with hardships due to upcoming medical expenses. We sure hope to see everyone on May 15th to support this wonderful family!

Cash and Checks will be accepted at Pick-Up, and you may reserve plates by contacting Holly at 318-872-3956.

Logansport’s water system is in violation of drinking water requirements. As a customer, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.

We are required to monitor your drinking water turbidity (cloudiness) on a continuous basis (every 15 minutes) and report such results to the Louisiana Departments of Health. This tells us whether we are effectively filtering the water supply· The Surface Water Treatment Rule (SWTR) requires our treated water never exceed a maximum allowable limit of 1,499 NTUS Treatment never exceeds Nephelometric Treatment Units (NTUS) at any time.

DeSoto Parish Sheriff Narcotics Agents are rounding out this month with a new string of drug related arrests that has yielded varying amounts of Cocaine, Meth, Ecstasy, Illegal Possession of Firearms, and Pills. With more to be expected, we are closing out March with just a few more. Each suspect has been booked into the DeSoto Detention Center and should be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law: — On March 5, 2025, Bo B. Kincaid (White Male, DOB03/29/1989, of Keithville) was taken into custody by SLIU and K9 Unit and charged with Distribution or Possession with the Intent to Distribute Schedule II (Meth), Possession of Schedule III (Buprenorphine), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving Under Suspension, Improper Lane Usage, and Second or Subsequent Offense.

— On March 20, 2025, Contravious Young (Black Male, DOB08/04/2001, of Grand Cane) was taken into custody by SLIU and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
