JAMES E. “JIMMY” NORWOOD II

MARCH 16, 1954 — SEPTEMBER 15, 2026

Jimmy left this earthly life at the age of 72, after a short but courageous battle with liver cancer. Jimmy was born and raised in Mansfield, Louisiana. Born to James Earnest Norwood I and Pauline Daniels Norwood. Jimmy was a son, husband, dad, adopted dad to many, Papaw, Great Papaw, brother-in-law, and Uncle.

Jimmy worked for Valley Electric in his young adult years, but his love was the oilfield. He worked for companies like Wheless, Scan, Greywolf, Sawyer, Patterson and Hallmark Oil and Gas. There wasn’t anything he could not tell you about a drilling rig and referred to the younger oilfield crews as “The Pepsi Generation”.

Jimmy also loved fishing. It didn’t matter what kind. Fresh water or Salt water. However, his favorites were cat-fishing, trot lining, running nets and yo-yos, or just sitting in our favorite bend of the river. He was also not above cranking and driving off with your hook still in the water if he was getting out fished. Jimmy was Jimmy. If you liked him, that was fine and if you didn’t, that was fine too. He wasn’t changing for anyone.

Jimmy is preceded in death by: His parents, James and Polly Norwood, Sisters: Billie Sims, and Diane Boyt. Paternal and Maternal Grandparents. Grandson, Brandon Levi Powdrill, and Brother-in-law, Clyde Sims.

Left to cherish his memory: Wife and favorite fishing partner, Patricia (Sissy) Norwood. Sister, Peggy Boyt (Larry). Sons: Brad Norwood (Tammie) and Steve Woods (Jen). Special Sons: David (Taco) Owens and Glen W. Kelly. Daughters: Laura Mayfield and Mandy Ellis (Jason). Grand children: Allyson (Ally Cat) Bynog (Kody), Colton Williams, Dakota Woods, Tucker Woods, and Airee Woods. Great Grand Children: Bryson Bynog, Reid Bynog, and Carl Woods. His faithful lap dogs and best girls: Lilly and Daisy. Several Brothers in law and Sisters in law, nieces, nephews, family, and many friends that became family.

Jimmy recently told daughter Mandy that if just one person learned from the choices he made throughout his life and made a change in theirs, then his battle with cancer was worth it.

The family would like to thank Christus Highland Cancer Center, Christus Hospice team, and the many family and friends that have reached out with so much love.

There will be a memorial service held October 3,2026, at Jimmy and Sissy’s home. Bring your lawn chair and share the memories.
