MARY MARGARET LIGHTFOOT JONES APRIL 25, 1938 - AUGUST 15, 2023

Our Mother, Mary Margaret Lightfoot Jones of Shreveport, Louisiana, left this world to be with her Savior on August 15,2023.

She was surrounded by her girls.

Born Mary Margaret Stevens in Many, Louisiana to Turner Elmo Stevens and Grace Yvonne Darby Stevens.

Mr. Stevens, her father, was a Sergeant with Shreveport Police Department and Mrs. Stevens, her mother, was a florist.

She was their only child and highly adored.

Mary Margaret attended Byrd High School along side her lifelong friend Linda Yeager. She graduated Byrd Class of ‘56.

In her adolescent years and up until adulthood she was an accomplished competitive skater, model and member of both adult softball and bowling leagues.

She was a longtime member of UDC Chapter #397 and DAR Chapter in Mansfield, Louisiana.

She was a genealogist and her research aided books written on the lives of The Massey’s, The Lightfoot’s, The Darby’s and the McFerren family lineage.

In the early 80’s she joined Pilot Club International.

She went on to become the first Governor of the Louisiana District for Pilot International.

During her time with Pilot Club she helped form the DeSoto Parish Tourism Committee which was very dear to her and showed the deep love of her community and its preservation.

Mary was a lifelong, active parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mansfield where she and Harry raised their seven children.

In 1990, at the age of 52, she went to work for the Department of Motor Vehicles. She became regional manager of the DeSoto Parish DMV and retired from the State of Louisiana in 2006.

Following the death of her husband, Harry Lightfoot, she re-united with her childhood love Elbert Monroe “Sonny” Jones and they married in 2006. She left Louisiana to make a home with Sonny in Tennessee. During her time in Tennessee she made many friends but none as dear to her as Dr. Lee Carter and his wife Teresa Beckham Carter.

After Sonny’s death, and at the bidding of her girls, she came home to Louisiana in 2020.

Mary Margaret Lightfoot Jones is preceded in death by her parents Mr & Mrs Turner Elmo Stevens, daughter Julianne Lightfoot, husband Harry Elton Lightfoot, great grand-daughter Ariella Annabelle Juliette Smith, husband Elbert Monroe “Sonny” Jones and great grand-son Lucian Alexander.

Those left to carryon her memory are her children June Lanelle Lightfoot, John Francis “Jay” Coddington, Linda Kristine Coddington, Susan Kathleen Lightfoot, Jeanne Marie and husband Jeffrey Otto Smith, Samantha Lynn Lightfoot, Sara Rebecca and husband Robert Dale Murray, Jr. 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Seth Alan Sharrow, Aaron Turner Owens and Paul Allen Owens Son in-laws Jeffrey Otto Smith, Robert Dale Murray and Don Morgan Honorary Pallbearers are Joshua David Smith, John David Smith, Noah Alexander Robinson, Christopher David Robinson, Tripp Alan Sharrow, Sage Turner Owens and Steven Lightfoot Sharrow.

Interment will be at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Tatum, Texas with Fr. Steve of St. Williams of Vercilli Catholic Church in Carthage, Texas officiating.
