REBECCA “BECKY” JEAN WILLIAMS

REBECCA “BECKY” JEAN WILLIAMS
11/3/52 – 3/25/22

Rebecca “Becky” Jean Williams, age 69, went home to Heaven on Friday, March 25, 2022. Becky lived to honor the Lord and serve Him in all facets of her life. Born and raised in Baytown, Texas, to W.A. Read and Helen McFarland Read, Becky grew up as the baby of 4. When she wasn’t trailing her older siblings, she was often tagging along with her dear childhood friend, Marsha Ellis, on family vacations and adventures.

While working as a teacher’s aid in Mont Bellevue, Texas, and towards her degree in education, Becky was introduced to Wayne Williams, through mutual friends. Their courtship blossomed into an engagement and they were blissfully wed on December 16, 1978, in Becky’s home church Central Baptist Church in Baytown.

Soon after, Becky and Wayne moved to Mansfield, Louisiana, where she would begin and build her 29-year career as a teacher at Johnson and Mansfield elementary schools. Becky often ran into her former students around town at WalMart or Brookshire’s, and she was often confused with her longtime team teacher and friend, Teena Duke, as both were petite, pretty, and blonde.

Becky’s most beloved role though was that of mother to Sammy and Sarah.

She loved her church family at Southside Baptist where she worshiped for over 35 years. Additionally, Becky was an active member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of The Gideons International, an avid reader, and she loved going to the movies.

Becky is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Wayne, son Sammy Williams (Wren) of Little Rock, AR, daughter Sarah Ziegler (Josh) of Bossier City, granddaughters Elisa and Ariel Ziegler, sisters Barbara Watkins of Baytown, TX and Sandy Pennington (Robert) of Anahuac, TX, and brother Ronnie Read (Mary) of Plano, TX, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved.

The funeral service was at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Southside Baptist Church in Mansfield, Louisiana, with Dr. Gary Orr officiating. Interment followed at Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Billy Robbins, David Welborn, Bill Shetley, Kenneth Hughes, Mike McConathy, Don Watkins, and Rick Smith (honorary).

The family received friends from 5 until 7 p.m., Monday, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 943 Polk Street.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 1403, Mansfield, LA 71052.

The family is especially grateful for the care and compassion provided by Superior Hospice, specifically Jolea, Jessica, and LaShonda, and the love and care shown by her church family at Southside Baptist.
