Sara graduated from Mansfield High School in 1941 and from Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia in 1945, where she majored in Speech and Drama.

She taught school at Mansfield Elementary and at Central School in Grand Cane, and also worked for many years at the DeSoto Parish Library. She especially enjoyed researching and writing, “Gleanings”, a popular column in The Mansfield Enterprise that looked back at what was happening in DeSoto Parish 50 and 75 years ago.

Sara is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dan Stokes, son Casey Alden Stokes, and her brother, Harvey Samuels, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Sally Grigsby, son Shaw Stokes, and daughter Anne Lindsay Minninger and husband David; Grandchildren: Jason Grigsby and wife Jennifer, Amy Bigler and husband Chris, Lindsay Grigsby, Casey Stokes and wife Crystle, and Jeremy Stokes and wife Brooke; Great grandchildren: Cameron and Hayden Grigsby, Caroline, Molly, and Jack Bigler, Tucker and Hinton LeBouef, Bailey, Landry, and Allie Stokes

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Gracie Mitchell, Barbara Simpson, and Telethea Simpson. They are true angels on Earth.

A family graveside service was held on Sunday, March 6, with a memorial service scheduled on Saturday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Mansfield; BFF of DeSoto Animal Services, P. O. Box 281, Grand Cane, LA 71032; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
