Hollis Powell Holmes, 81, of Logansport, LA, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 16, 2022, in Shreveport, LA. He was born on June 17, 1940, in Logansport to the late Paul Fullilove and Ellen Cleo Powell Holmes. Mr. Holmes grew up going to Longstreet schools and he, along with twin brother Wallace, worked as dairymen helping their father take care of the family farm. He married the love of his life, Sybil Geraldine Yount, on June 8, 1962, at Panola Baptist Churc h. They began operating a dairy barn in the 60’s and would have been married 60 years in June. In his younger years, he hauled steel by 18-wheeler for the construction of what is now the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Mr. Holmes lived his lifetime in the Logansport area, where he served as constable for 25 years, was of the Methodist faith, and attended the First Baptist Church. In the 1980’s, he was instrumental in the construction of the Georgia Pacific plant. Mr. Holmes also worked for Comstock checking wells and later for 4-G Contractors. His most beloved job was farming, ranching, and tending to his land. He was a devoted family man. Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Cleo Holmes and brothers, J.E. and Glen Holmes.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Geraldine Yount Holmes; son, Ray Holmes; daughter, Joanne Holmes McDaniel and husband Randy; son, C.D. Holmes and wife Christy; sisters, Pauline Bunch and husband Myron and Linda May and husband Paul; brother, Douglas Holmes and wife Lucille; twin-brother, Wallace Holmes and wife Helen; sister-in-law, Edna Holmes; sister-in-law, Rita Holmes; and grandchildren, Joshua D. Tanner, Megan D. Holmes, Chance M. Holmes, and Rachel Tanner. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Logan sport with Bro. Shawn Thrapp and Bro. Charles Hall officiating under the direction of Jimerson - Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment followed in Longstreet Memorial Cemetery.

The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers were Chance Holmes, Jerry Cobb, Anthony Harvey, Tim McSwain, Harold Scott, and Steve Victoria. Honorary pallbearers were Jay Holmes, Joshua Tanner, and the Longstreet Coffee Club.
