A Mass of Christian Burial for Mack Wellman Bankson, Jr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans, 939 Jordan St., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the Rosary beginning at 4:00 p.m., delivered by Father Rothell Price. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Pelican, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Father Peter Mangum.

Mack was born on February 4, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Mack Wellman Bankson and Agnes Bice Bankson and passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Mack was a graduate of Mansfield High School and served in the United States Navy. He was a Shreveport Fire Fighter having attained rank of Assistant Fire Chief “C” and gave 33 years of service. He was also a fourth-generation funeral director, in the tradition of his greatgrandfather, Mack Wellman, who founded Wellman’s Funeral Home, the first funeral home in Shreveport. He proudly received his Funeral Director’s License in 1967 serving families in the Shreveport Bossier area for almost 50 years.

Mack was a member of Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans, the National Rifle Association and Shreveport Fire Fighters Local 514.

Mack is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandy Bankson; brother, J.B. “Buddy” Bankson; stepdaughter, Shelly Bumpers; and nephew, Joseph Moncrief. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Mike Bankson and wife, Julie, Rick Bankson and wife, Deborah, and Shawn Bankson and wife, Alana; the loving mother of his sons, Sue Callens; daughter, Stephanie Bankson and fiancé, Robert Sojka; brother, Peter Moncrief; sisters-in-law, Dale Bankson and Linda Moncrief; sisters, Susan and husband, Chuck, JoAnn and husband, Jorge, and Patty; brothers, Lee Bankson and Dean Gekas and their families; grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron, Tyler, Ashley, Chelbi, Ayden, Dylan, Vincent, Jennifer and Sarah; several great-grandchildren; nieces, Mary and Melinda; nephew, Bryan and beloved “mom”, Lillian “Lou” Bankson.

Honoring Mack as pallbearers will be Tyler Bankson, Aaron Bankson, Brian Bankson, Dylan Bankson, Vincent Codarin, and Robert Sojka. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Williams, Dennis Gray, Johnny “Boone” Winters and retired members of the Shreveport Fire Department.
