The Wolverine QB DaKeldrick Thomas was able to complete a 50+ yard pass to WR #4 D’Quinton Robinson. This pass set up the touchdown pass from Thomas to Robinson, and a quarterback keeper garnered 2 extra points. Football season is back and the Griffins we’re excited for a huge game week one with the Captain Shreve Gators. The Griffins were excited and ready to face off. With a team lead by several seniors on both sides of the ball, they hoped to carry over the momentum they gained towards the end of last season. It was finally time for the Griffins to show off their hard work.

The MHS Wolverines started their season opener looking at little rusty for the first half, but came back with a vengeance to overcome a halftime deficit to secure a win over the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles on Friday, September 3, on the ECA field in Shreveport.

The MHS Wolverines started off with the ball in the Friday night game, and things started out looking promising with a pass from QB Dakeldrick Thomas to WR DQuinton Robinson. However, at the end of Q1, neither MHS or ECA were able to put any points on the scoreboard at Duron Field.

Griffin football is back in Stonewall! After putting in a lot off season work, the Griffins finally got to take the field for some live action. Evangel came to Griffin stadium for the jamboree, which was a good sneak peek for a match up later in the season.

North DeSoto received the ball. Corbyn Cross had a great return which gave the Griffins great field position to start. The offense started a little slow, they were able to get in the red zone, but the drive ended in an interception at the goal line. The defense came out strong, getting pressure on the quarterback and forced a three and out. This forced Evangel to have to punt from the endzone. The Griffins brought pressure and Lincoln Hooper was able to bring the punter down in the endzone for a safety. The Griffins took the lead 2-0. Corbyn Cross had another good return. The offense was still trying to find their rhythm, but that drive ended in an interception as well. The end of the first quarter the score was 2-0.

DOTD to Replace Pavement Markings on I-49 through DeSoto Parish

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that beginning on Monday, August 23, 2021, there will be intermittent lane closures on I-49 northbound and southbound through DeSoto Parish.

These lane closures are associated with a $600,000 project to replace the pavement markings on a 36 mile stretch of I-49 from the DeSoto Parish line (approximately one mile south of the Southern Loop interchange) to the Natchitoches Parish line.

This project includes the replacement of all the reflectorized pavement markings, pavement striping where appropriate, and other related work.

Mansfield High School Football fans were treated to an evening of Wolverine football on Thursday, August 19, as the Southwood High School Cowboys came to Washington-Taylor-Rogers Stadium to play.

The 3A Wolverines provided the Wolverine faithful with a powerful showing of defensive skills as the 5A Cowboys were not able to score on the squad. The Wolverine offensive prowess was present, but limited, as several first-string players were not able to play Thursday evening.

Mansfield High School will be hosting the DeSoto Parish Football Jamboree Friday, August 27. (submitted)
