CAROL J. TYLER

An online service in memory of Carol J Tyler (US Army, CPT, ret.) can be viewed on Facebook at 3 PM, Saturday, June 20 under the auspices of Donnelly Funeral Home in Irving, TX. A memorial service, with the interment of her ashes, will be held later at Bethel Methodist Church near Logansport. Rev. Frances Freeman, former pastor at Bethel United Methodist, will conduct the online service.

Although part of a family with more than a century-long history in the Logansport area, specifically the Bethel community, Carol was born in Houston, TX in 1940 and began school at Joaquin, TX. She graduated as salutatorian from Logansport High School in 1958 where she was also a standout athlete. She attended Centenary College in Shreveport on academic scholarships, earning a BS in Biology.

MURIEL “MERLE” MARIE CARNAHAN

MURIEL “MERLE” MARIE CARNAHAN

Muriel “Merle” Marie Carnahan died June 11, 2020 in Castle Rock, Colorado after a brief illness. Born February 6, 1927 in Vivian, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late William Harrison and Emma Toombs Carlisle. She was married to the late Douglas Everett Carnahan and lived most of her life in Mansfield, Louisiana. She worked as the secretary of Pelican High School where she was recognized for her skills at managing both the administrative and student aspects of school life. Even after her retirement, students would greet her on the street and in stores to tell her of their appreciation of the manner in which she carried out her work. In addition, Muriel and Douglas served as foster parents to several children in need. She also cared for the children’s nursery at the Pelican Baptist Church for more the 50 years until her move to Nashville, Tennessee in 2012 to be closer to her son the Reverend Charles Carnahan.

TIMOTHY “TIMBO” RUSSELL RABORN

Funeral services honoring the life of Timothy “Timbo” Russell Raborn were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2020 at Union Springs Baptist Church in Converse, Louisiana with Rev. Chucky Clark officiating. Assisting with the service was Rev. Richard Enterkin. Interment followed at Cassell Cemetery in Converse. A visitation with the family was held at the church on Monday beginning at 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Timbo was born on January 16, 1967 in Many, Louisiana to Paul and Ruth Raborn. He entered into eternal rest on June 9, 2020 in Jefferson, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Raborn.

Robert Franklin Sebren, 69, entered into eternal rest on May 29, 2020 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Robert was born on October 8, 1950 in Converse, Louisiana to James and Julia Sebren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Leroy Sebren and Julia Mae Ott Sebren and his sister, Betty Kathon Rascoe.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Mark, Jeremy, and Patrick (Rocky); daughters, Glenda and Sandy; sister, Patsy Rascoe and husband Thomas; brother-in-law, Douglas A. Rascoe; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

As per Mr. Sebren’s request, he will be cremated, and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Remembering Richard Lee Flores: Richard Lee “Ricky” Flores was born in Mansfield, Louisiana May 27, 1974 to his loving mother, Dianne Norwood Boyt, and Randy Flores.

His life ended May 25, 2020, but his story continues. Friends remember Ricky as a “one of a kind good guy” with “a heart of gold”, “quick witted and kind hearted”, “a true and loyal friend”, who would give you the shirt off his back.

Ricky was always determined to give and do his very best. This was evident from the age of nine with his love for dirt bikes and motocross.

Marvin Glen Melton (PawPaw) passed away peacefully May 23, 2020 at Mansfield Nursing Center in Mansfield, LA at the age of 87. Funeral services honoring his life were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA. Bro. Toby Shaw Officiated with Pat Cobbs assisting. Interment followed at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield, LA. Visitation was from 5 PM to 8PM, with the family hour starting at 4 Rose-Neath Funeral Home on May 26, 2020.

PORTER GARLAND “SONNY” DOWLING

Funeral services honoring the life of Porter Garland “Sonny” Dowling were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2020 at First Baptist Church Logansport. Officiating the service was Bro. Ben Brittain with Rev. Nancy Wofford assisting. Interment followed at O.E. Price Memorial Cemetery in Logansport. A visitation with the family was held at the church on Sunday, May 24, 2020 beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Porter Garland “Sonny” Dowling, 86, crossed over the river to rest beneath the shade of the trees on May 22, 2020, at his home in Logansport, Louisiana. He was born February 26, 1934, to Thomas Lawson Dowling and Doris Garland Dowling in Grand Cane, Louisiana.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Logansport, LA. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America and was the first Eagle Scout in Troop 33 in Logansport. He graduated from Logansport High School in 1952 and graduated from Louisiana Tech University in September, 1959 with a B.S. in Forestry.

Age 88, of Providence Point-Scott Twp., formerly of Lafayette, LA passed away on Tuesday May 19, 2020. Born in Monticello, NY, grew up in New England, Warren was the second child and first son of Llewellyn and Elizabeth (Hooper) Beedle. Husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Abington) Beedle; father of Warren P. “Dusty” Beedle, III (Angela) of Poplar Bluff, MO, Cindy Hinds (Tom) of Mt. Lebanon and the late Deborah Ann Chapman; grandfather of Jeffrey (Rachel) and the late Jennifer Chapman, Ashley and Jeremy Hinds and Lilleth Beedle and her stepbrother, Nick Wells; Brother of Jessie Jacques and Billy Beedle (Judy); and sister-in-law of D’Ella Clark, the late Abby Cook and Alna Bobbitt; brother-in-law of Marvin Cook; uncle of Jimmy Cook, Celeste Dodson (Kerry), Malcolm Clark (Sherri), Stephen Jacques (Maria), Kathy Jacques, Butch Jacques, Judith Beedle, Susan Beedle Woodward, the late Jerry and Wayne Bobbitt.

LAVERNE RALPH ARNOLD “BUTCH” POCKRANDT

On May 13, 2020, at the merry age of 93, Laverne Ralph Arnold “Butch” Pockrandt passed peacefully into his eternal home in heaven. He had spent two weeks in the hospital and ended his life in hospice care in Shreveport. Butch, as he was known to all his friends and family, resided in Mansfield/Grand Cane for over 40 years.

He was born August 12, 1926 in Henderson, Minnesota to Harry and Clara Pockrandt, Butch had extremely fond, nostalgic memories of growing up in Minnesota, but was always glad to have put his snow shovels and snow blowers aside for the warmer winter temperatures in Louisiana.

Butch’s working career spanned “soup to nuts” as he would say, starting work as a young man with a soup company in Illinois. Butch was drafted into the U.S. Army on December 7, 1944 and served in the Philippines prior to the end of the war. After the war’s end, he began a long career in the nut cracking/packing industry which ultimately led him to the Mansfield area.

BRANDON McCLAINE BINNING

Graveside services honoring the life of Brandon McClaine Binning, 36, were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Allan Cemetery in Mansfield, Louisiana. Officiating the service was Bro. Bob Latham.

Brandon was born on August 20, 1983. He entered into eternal rest on May 22, 2020.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his father, Henry Binning and wife Yolanda; sons, Zack and Jacob Binning; sister, Connie Brown; grandmother, Maxine Evans; along with his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Gale Evans Henderson; maternal grandfather, Richard Evans; paternal grandparents, Henry Binning Sr. and Ruby “Tut” Binning; paternal grandmother, Francis Cooper Luse.

Honoring Brandon as pallbearers were Jeremy Evans, Chris Fourd, Chris Bridges, Scott Maines, Alan Maines, and Alex Singleton.
